Overview

Major League Soccer is the top-flight men’s professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. We aspire to be one of the top leagues in the world, as defined by our quality of play, the passion of our fans, the relevance of our clubs and the value of our enterprise. The league currently has 29 active clubs and San Diego was recently announced as the 30th club to join in 2025.
 
The Club Performance Group drives the growth of our business and our fanbase at local and national levels by driving collaboration, best practices, innovation, and solutions across our Clubs and the league. The group serves as an in-house advisory and resource, working in close partnership with club leadership on business operations, including ticketing, sponsorship, media, content, marketing, business intelligence and fan development.
 
The Senior Director, Club Performance will support the MLS’ efforts with the goal of serving clubs and driving performance, to improve top-line and bottom-line financial results via fanbase growth, capitalizing on revenue opportunities, leveraging cost savings and driving improved financial results across the club ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Club engagement point of contact for ~8-10 clubs, using internal resources and outside services to achieve desired results for clubs.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to club leaders to help them achieve their business goals.
  • Lead the Club Performance Group team in developing and implementing marketing strategies to drive club performance and profitability.
  • Develop and execute strategies to drive club performance, fan growth, and increase profitability.
  • Support priority Club Performance projects through research, analysis, and the development of action plans.
  • Analyze key performance metrics and industry trends to find opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Stay informed about industry developments, best practices, and emerging trends to share and advise strategy and decision-making.
  • Work with internal Research and Business Intelligence team members to deliver regular reporting and address feedback and questions, with a focus on marketing.
  • Coordinate and attend Club visits, as needed, to develop relationships with club leadership, assess needs, identify priorities, and ensure effective implementation of standard practices and action plans.
  • Lead and manage Fan Base Growth working group comprised of club executives.
  • Other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA Preferred
  • 10+ years' of experience in the sports and entertainment industry, with diverse experiences or working closely with professional teams/clubs.
  • Experience in consultative and marketing positions.

Required Skills:

  • Strong executive presence with experience working directly with C-Level Executives Expertise in marketing, with a proven track record in driving marketing best practices and efforts that build value and desirability in a brand and drives increased fandom.
  • Outstanding organization, project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Possess strategic and innovative approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to direct multiple team members in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international soccer industry.
  • Knowledge in areas of marketing, fan growth, and fan engagement.
  • Strong data and analytical capabilities, with the ability to identify insights and supported recommendations.
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to interact effectively in a professional and diplomatic manner with internal and external clients at all levels.
  • The ability to coach and develop staff at all levels, including direct reports, matrixed League Staff and club stakeholders.
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, compliance, promptness, and timeliness.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Desired Skills

  • Fluency or proficiency in Spanish and/or French preferred.
  • Knowledge of the sport of soccer
  • Knowledge of US Sports landscape and North American sporting venues
  • Knowledge of the US Hispanic consumer market 

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary $145,000 - $185,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
