Who are we hiring?  
The Manager, Integrated Communications will play a critical role in shaping and amplifying the narrative of the Kansas City Current's player development ecosystem, including Kansas City Current II, Teal Rising Academy Brazil, Teal Rising Alliance, and other grassroots initiatives. This individual will serve as the primary communications lead for KC Current II, overseeing media relations, storytelling, content strategy, and social media efforts while supporting the broader communications objectives of the Kansas City Current organization. 

This role will develop and execute integrated communications strategies that strengthen the club's brand, deepen engagement with fans and stakeholders, and position the Kansas City Current's development pathway as a key pillar of the organization's long-term vision. The position will also provide communications support for the First Team, including matchday operations, media relations, and organizational initiatives as needed.

What will you do? 
Communications Strategy & Storytelling
  • Develop and execute integrated communications strategies for KC Current II, Academy programs, and player development initiatives.
  • Identify key messaging and storytelling opportunities that elevate the Kansas City Current ecosystem and reinforce organizational priorities.
  • Create compelling narratives featuring players, coaches, staff, and developmental programs to grow awareness and engagement locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging across earned, owned, and shared communication channels.
  • Support communications planning and execution for major organizational announcements, milestones, and initiatives. 
 
Media Relations
  • Serve as the primary communications contact for KC Current II.
  • Manage day-to-day media relations, including responding to inquiries, coordinating interviews, and facilitating media access.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, statements, talking points, and other communications materials.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, national, and international media.
  • Proactively pitch stories that generate earned media coverage across sports, business, lifestyle, and community outlets.
  • Monitor media coverage, prepare reporting summaries, and evaluate communications effectiveness. 
 
Soccer Communications
  • Lead communications operations for KC Current II, including matchdays, training sessions, media availability, and team announcements.
  • Serve as liaison between coaches, players, staff, broadcast partners, and media.
  • Coordinate press conferences, post-match media operations, game notes, and statistical resources.
  • Support team travel communications logistics and league communication requirements.
  • Assist with First Team communications initiatives, matchday operations, media responsibilities, and special projects as assigned. 
 
Content & Digital Communications
  • Oversee social media strategy and content creation for KC Current II and emerging player development channels.
  • Create written content for websites, newsletters, media guides, and organizational communications.
  • Partner with Content, Marketing, Partnerships, Community Impact, and Soccer Operations to deliver cohesive storytelling and integrated campaigns.
  • Support executive communications, public appearances, and community events.
 
What do you need to succeed?  
     Required 
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of professional experience in sports communications, media relations, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience developing and executing communications strategies and media relations programs.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of media relations, public relations, storytelling, and brand communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with media, athletes, coaches, and organizational leaders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and communications technologies.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring, reporting platforms, and AP Style.
  • Passion for women's sports and the growth of professional soccer.

Preferred
  • Professional sports, collegiate athletics, agency, or corporate communications experience.
  • Experience serving as a lead communications contact for a team, organization, or major initiative.
  • Familiarity with social media strategy and digital content best practices.
  • Experience supporting game-day operations, live events, or media operations.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Familiarity with Meltwater or similar media monitoring platforms.
  • Established relationships with sports, business, or lifestyle media contacts.

    Special requirements of the Job:
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
  • Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives. 
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
  • Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
