COMPANY BACKGROUND 

The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club’s brands include men's and women's professional teams - the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park.   

 

The Club has a rich history, including MLS Cup titles (2006, 2007) and in-season tournament championships for both the Dynamo (2018 and 2023) and Dash (2020) and is focused on building toward the next championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach, and creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state. 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This role will assist the Finance department in various accounting functions of the Houston Dynamo FC, Dynamo Stadium, Houston Dash, Houston Dynamo 2, Houston Sports Park, Forever Orange, Electric Orange and Dynamo & Dash Charities (501c3). This position will perform professional level accounting work and assist with general office support tasks coordinated with and supervised by the Accounting Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and record daily cash-related journal entries, including banking, ticketing, box office, and event-related activity across multiple legal entities. 
  • Review ticketing and banking activities for completeness and accuracy, investigate discrepancies, and ensure transactions are recorded in the appropriate accounting period. 
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all assigned bank accounts and promptly research and resolve outstanding reconciling items. 
  • Prepare sponsorship and other customer invoices in accordance with contractual billing terms. 
  • Maintain accounts receivable records and coordinate with the Sponsorship team to monitor outstanding balances and support collection of past-due accounts. 
  • Prepare assigned month-end close journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules in accordance with the established close calendar. 
  • Assist with monthly box office vault audits, including verification of cash balances, documentation of variances, and compliance with established cash-handling controls. 
  • Maintain complete and organized accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and internal-control requirements. 
  • Assist with annual financial statement audits by preparing requested schedules, retrieving supporting documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries. 
  • Support general administrative responsibilities, process-improvement initiatives, and special accounting projects as assigned. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.  
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and fundamental accounting processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, and reconciliation of financial information. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 1-3 years of accounting experience, including relevant internships or entry-level professional experience. 
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities, ticketing activity, sponsorship receivables, or event-related revenue.
