The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club’s brands include men's and women's professional teams - the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park.
The Club has a rich history, including two-MLS Cup titles (2006, 2007) and two-U.S. Open Cup Championships (2018, 2023) and is focused on building toward the next championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach, and creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Manage the day-to-day Athletic Training operation for the Houston Dynamo FC. Duties are performed under the direction of the Director of Sports Medicine and supervision of the Chief Medical Officer. The Head Athletic Trainer will work closely and communicate daily with the Head Coach, President of Soccer, Technical Director, Head of Performance, Director of Sports Medicine, and Chief Medical Officer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages Houston Dynamo FC players for evaluation, treatment and prevention of their injuries and all general health needs.
- Communicates daily with Head Coach, President of Soccer, Technical Director, Head of Performance, Director of Sports Medicine, and Chief Medical Officer on the status of all Houston Dynamo FC players.
- Travels with the Houston Dynamo FC on all away training or competitions.
- Monitors Houston Dynamo FC injury trends with the Director of Sports Medicine, and work with the Performance Staff to focus on injury prevention and continuous evaluation of the Team’s programs effectiveness.
- Remains active in the MLS as a leader of clinical excellence in the league.
- Embodies professional excellence to lead the training room culture and function.
- Documents player treatments and status daily into League EMR (ARMS).
- Communicates with workers’ compensation to make sure all players are covered properly, with oversight from the Director of Sports Medicine.
- Communicates the match availability report with the Head Coach, Director of Sports Medicine, President of Soccer, Technical Director, and Head of Performance for proper notification to the league for each match per MLS deadlines.
- Annually reviews and updates the athletic training policies and procedures with the Director of Sports Medicine.
- Maintains a positive attitude to help the players succeed in their goals.
- Oversees supply needs to maintain clinical equipment.
- Monitors daily and monthly cleaning list for the athletic training room.
- Assists with transportation of players to attend physician appointments and medical testing when needed.
- Maintain certifications with Texas Licensure, NATABOC, and BLS/CPR and update the Director of Sports Medicine on any changes.
- Maintain personal liability insurance.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive experience in the field of Athletic Training. - Required
- Experience in a professional sports environment to be able to lead the athletic training room as a skilled clinician and to also understand the pace and dynamics of an elite sports team. – Required
- Be involved in our return to play process. - Required
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. - Required
- Must be NATABOC certified and licensed in the State of Texas to practice Athletic Training. - Required
- Certifications: CSCS, PES, LMT, and/or NREMT Certified Performance Sports Specialist (CPSS). - Preferred
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. - Preferred
- Must have ability to travel internationally. - Required
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. – Required
- Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese. - Preferred
