COMPANY BACKGROUND 

The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club's brands include men's and women's professional teams — the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park. 

The Club has a rich history, including MLS Cup titles (2006, 2007) and in-season tournament championships for both the Dynamo (2018 and 2023) and Dash (2020), and is focused on building toward the next championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach, and creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state. 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB 

As the Director, Social Media at Houston Dynamo Football Club, you will own and lead the strategic direction, development, and execution of social media for the Houston Dynamo and Dynamo 2. Audience growth and content excellence are the twin engines of this role, you will personally manage our channels and execute a platform-native content strategy that meaningfully expands our reach, deepens fan engagement, and strengthens brand loyalty. 

Beyond content, you will connect social media directly to business outcomes, integrating sponsorship activations, driving ticket and merchandise awareness, and using data to continuously sharpen performance. You are both a hands-on channel operator and a strategic leader, equally comfortable creating content in the moment and presenting performance insights to stakeholders. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop and own a comprehensive, platform-specific social media strategy for the Houston Dynamo and Dynamo 2, with audience growth and fan engagement as primary KPIs. 
  • Own and manage day-to-day content planning, creation, and publishing across all Dynamo and Dynamo 2 channels, including real-time match coverage, live event posting, and community management. 
  • Lead a team of social media professionals, setting clear direction, fostering creativity, and building a high-performance culture through mentorship and accountability. 
  • Oversee all Dynamo and Dynamo 2 social media channels, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Facebook, Threads, and LinkedIn, ensuring content is optimized natively for each platform. 
  • Champion a TikTok-first and YouTube growth mindset, developing short-form and long-form content strategies that reflect how fans consume content today. 
  • Stay ahead of platform changes, algorithm shifts, and emerging channels, identifying opportunities and acting on them quickly. 
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools into the content workflow to improve speed, personalization, and creative output without sacrificing quality. 
  • Build and manage a creator and athlete content strategy, leveraging players, influencers, and brand advocates to extend organic reach. 
  • Partner with the Sponsorship team to develop and execute social media activations that deliver measurable value for Club partners. 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Communications, Digital, and Ticketing teams to align social efforts with broader organizational campaigns and revenue goals. 
  • Establish KPIs and own a structured reporting cadence — weekly performance snapshots, monthly deep-dives, and quarterly growth reviews — translating data into clear insights and actionable recommendations for stakeholders. 
  • Other related duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field. 
  • 5-7 years of experience in social media management, preferably within sports or entertainment. 
  • Hands-on experience managing social channels directly, content creation, publishing, community management, and real-time coverage including live events and match days. 
  • Demonstrated track record of growing social audiences and driving engagement at scale. 
  • Deep, current knowledge of platform ecosystems, particularly TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, including algorithms, content formats, and analytics tools. 
  • Experience with paid social amplification and integrating organic and paid strategies. 
  • Familiarity with AI content tools and how to apply them in a fast-moving content environment. 
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing creative teams. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a sharp eye for storytelling, voice, and visual content. 
  • Ability to translate organizational objectives into platform-native social strategies. 
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, high-output environment with multiple concurrent priorities. 
  • Knowledge of soccer and familiarity with Major League Soccer (MLS) preferred.
