COMPANY BACKGROUND
The Houston Dynamo Football Club (HDFC) is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting soccer participation and growth in Houston, TX and beyond. The Club’s brands include men's and women's professional teams - the Houston Dynamo (MLS) and Houston Dash (NWSL), a development academy, Houston Dynamo Dash Charities, as well as Shell Energy Stadium and Houston Sports Park.

The Club has a rich history, including MLS Cup titles (2006, 2007) and in-season tournament championships for both the Dynamo (2018 and 2023) and Dash (2020) and is focused on building toward the next championships, inspiring and uniting the city of Houston through the sport of soccer and community outreach, and creating the most inclusive sporting experience and diverse fan base in the city and state.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Houston Dynamo FC is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Academy Performance Coach to support player development and programming for the academy’s aspiring talents. This position will be part of our club’s Sports Performance department, led by Head of Performance Paul Caffrey. This position will collaborate with the full academy staff to support the individual player and collective team development. This important role will include being part of a team of developers who are highly motivated to continually improve player development programming.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Designs, implements, and reviews strength and conditioning programs for Academy teams.
  • Designs and implements age-appropriate movement skill sessions to enhance performance.
  • Conducts pre-training athletic development sessions.
  • Collects, analyzes and reports on GPS data for designated Academy teams.
  • Manage data for all Academy teams utilizing the clubs Athlete Management System.
  • Designs individual corrective exercises based on test results and maintains athlete records.
  • Assists in designing testing protocol to help ensure long term athletic development.
  • Assists Academy coaches in planning training to enhance tactical periodization.
  • Assists D2 performance staff when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with elite/competitive athletes,
  • Previous experience coaching athletes at a professional, collegiate or academy level
  • Experience with sports science technology
  • Proficiency in demonstrating athletic movement both on the field and in the gym
  • Able to travel extensively to away games

PREFERRED:
  • Knowledge of nutritional requirements for athletes
  • NSCA CSCS or CPT and/or NASM PES Certifications
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Must be available to work long hours, including but not limited to holidays and weekends

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion.
  • Maintains organizational core competencies.
