Reporting organizationally to the Head of Environment, the Circularity Manager will be a key member of the FIFA26 Sustainability & Human Rights team, and work in close collaboration with the FIFA Sustainability & Environment Department, the Cleaning & Waste Management Services functional area, various other relevant tournament functional areas and key individuals responsible for reducing waste and delivering sustainable waste management at FIFA World Cup sites in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.  

THE POSITION

The main responsibilities and oversights of the Circularity Manager for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ include: 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to improve the circularity of operations and processes, promote a circular economy and minimise waste at tournament sites;
  • Manage and promote projects that avoid and reduce resource use as well as promote the reuse of products and materials;
  • Work with relevant tournament functional areas, in particular with the Cleaning & Waste Management Services functional area and others such as the FIFA World Cup stadiums to ensure repurposing, segregation, recycling and composting of waste;
  • Work with the Sustainable Supply Chain Manager to seek to procure products and materials that maximize resource efficiency and reduce waste;
  • Work with the Host Cities and other key tournament stakeholders to support them in the implementation of sustainable waste management practices; 
  • Work with the Catering and Marketing Rights Delivery functional areas to reduce food waste;
  • Work cross-functionally on a post-tournament asset redistribution program; 
  • Raise awareness of contractors, participants and attendees on how to avoid, reduce and segregate waste;
  • Support the Director of Sustainability & Human Rights and the Head of Environment with the development of and integration of circularity criteria and standards into tournament policies, processes, procedures, guidelines and other tools across FWC26 Inc.;
  • Assist in planning and coordinating of meetings, workshops and site visits; 
  • Support the delivery of the tournament´s sustainability reporting on circularity throughout the project.

YOUR PROFILE
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in one of the following: sustainability, environmental studies or similar field
  • Post-graduate degree(s) for the above areas is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in management of complex, multi-stakeholder circular economy and/or sustainable waste management projects, with at least two years of experience in the United States and preferably also in Canada and Mexico;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in facility waste management operations, preferably in stadiums or arenas; 
  • Experience in creating project concepts and coordinating their implementation;  
  • Track-record of being innovative, resourceful and purpose-driven in managing projects;
  • Concrete understanding of legal framework on circular economy and waste management across the Host Cities in the United States and preferably also in Canada and Mexico as well as of relevant standards and global best practices;
  • Experience in working as part of a multi-cultural team and in working across countries remotely;
  • Keen understanding and previous working experience with key commercial, governmental and NGO stakeholders in the field of waste/resource management in the United States and preferably also in Canada and Mexico; 
  • Proven track-record in fostering, building and maintaining relationships with groups of experts and/or stakeholders;
  • Experience in integrating circular economy requirements in processes and procedures across an organization´s business.
  • Experience working in the field of sports and events and, in particular, mega sporting events;
  • Experience working with local governments and other governmental actors in the field of environment in the Host Countries;
  • Familiarity with and/or experience in working within the frameworks of sustainability event management systems such as ISO 20121 (Event Sustainability Management Systems – Requirements with guidance for use);
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in working with international sustainability standards and conventions;
  • Experience in reporting against international standards such as Global Reporting Initiative sustainability reporting standards.
  • Fluent in English. Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
