Indy Ignite brings the heat of professional women’s volleyball to Central Indiana. As part of Major League Volleyball, the nation’s premier pro volleyball league, our mission is to pursue victory, empower women and serve our community through the competitive world of pro volleyball. Together, we are paving the way for the next generation of women’s sports and inspiring girls to pursue their passion with relentless ambition. Indy Ignite ended its inaugural season in 2025 as the runner-up in the MLV Championship. We will begin our second season in January 2026. 

Position Summary 
The Communications Coordinator assists the Communications Director and Communications Editor in telling the story of the Indy Ignite season—online, to media, and on the Ignite website. In addition to working hand in hand to represent the Indy Ignite brand, the Communications Coordinator will assist with monthly reporting and cross departmental communications.

This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn the inner workings of a professional sports organization while playing a key role in telling the unique story of the Indy Ignite, Indiana’s professional women’s volleyball team. They will gain hands-on experience working in communications, media relations, and VIP management in the sports landscape. 

This position will be compensated at a rate of $16/hour. The position will span from November 1, 2025 - May 2026 dependent on the Indy Ignite post season schedule. If you are a graduating senior, we can be flexible with the start date.

Responsibilities include
  • Posting stories/match notes, updating player bios and statistics and game day final score to the Ignite website (in coordination with Communications Editor)
  • Creating theme night pages for the Indy Ignite website, as needed (in coordination with the marketing department)
  • Assisting Communications Editor in gathering necessary quotes and information for reports 
  • Supervising the media credential request process before games and credential distribution during at media will call at games 
  • Supervising celebrity and VIP check in at games and, in some cases, helping host celebrities and VIP during home matches 
  • Coordinating printing needs on game day w/ Marcomm team 
  • Media reports (monthly)
  • Maintaining/updating media distribution list 
  • Help comms team set up and tear down press room during games 
  • Assist communications editor prepare for post-match press conferences; print and distribute box scores to players and coaches when they come into press room for press conferences
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Requirements 
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Sport Management, Marketing, Communications, Event Management, or related field.
  • Previous experience in communications, media management, sports information or a related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with confidence engaging with fans, staff, and performers.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for all Indy Ignite home matches and occasional community events.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, move around the arena, and assist with event setup and tear down.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • May require some travel with necessary travel expenses covered by the Indy Ignite.
