About the Indy Ignite
Indy Ignite brings the heat of professional women’s volleyball to Central Indiana. As part of Major League Volleyball, the nation’s premier pro volleyball league, our mission is to pursue victory, empower women and serve our community through the competitive world of pro volleyball. Together, we are paving the way for the next generation of women’s sports and inspiring girls to pursue their passion with relentless ambition. Indy Ignite ended its inaugural season in 2025 as the runner-up in the MLV Championship. We will begin our second season in January 2026.
Position Summary
Indy Ignite is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Ball Crew Lead to manage and oversee the ball retriever crew during all home matches. This part-time, seasonal position plays a key role in ensuring smooth match operations and an excellent game-day experience for players and fans. The Ball Crew Lead will be responsible for recruiting, educating, and supervising a group of 6 to 10 middle and high school volunteers for all home matches who assist with ball retrieval, court preparation, and other match-related tasks. The ideal candidate is organized, confident, and enjoys working with youth in a fast-paced sports environment.
This position will be compensated at a rate of $50/event with some additional opportunities compensated at $10/hour. The position will span from January - May 2026 dependent on the Indy Ignite post season schedule.
Responsibilities Include
- Recruit, train, and supervise ball crew volunteers for all home matches.
- Educate ball crew members on their roles, responsibilities, and match-day etiquette.
- Lead pre-match crew meetings and ensure all members are properly assigned and prepared.
- Oversee ball retrieval and distribution during warmups and match play to ensure efficiency and professionalism.
- Manage the preparation and rotation of game balls, ensuring they are clean, ready, and accessible for servers.
- Maintain high energy and positivity, encouraging a professional and fun environment for youth volunteers.
- Act as the primary point of contact for ball crew members and resolve any issues quickly.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Fan Experience teams to ensure seamless match-day operations.
- Assist with set-up and tear-down of game-day court equipment as needed.
- Provide feedback to enhance efficiency, safety, and the fan experience.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Be fun, confident, outgoing, and comfortable engaging with fans of all ages.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Currently living in Fishers, Indiana, or surrounding areas.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to be a vocal presence while remaining positive and professional.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to work all or most of the 14 Indy Ignite home matches as well as occasional regional or local community events.
- Ability to easily stand, walk long distances, and move up and down stairs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift objects such as mascot props or promotional items.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, and assist with mascot dressing and movement as needed.
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions including cold, wind, rain, and heat.
- Willingness to adapt and respond quickly in dynamic event environments.
- May require some out-of-town travel with necessary travel expenses covered by the Indy Ignite.
