MLV NorCal is part of Major League Volleyball (MLV), a unified professional women’s volleyball league launching in 2027 in the Bay Area and Sacramento. Position Overview
We are building a brand from the ground up, and marketing will define how we show up in culture, community, and sport. The Manager, Performance & Commerce Marketing will lead the strategy and execution of performance-driven marketing efforts for a new professional women’s volleyball team in Northern California. This role is responsible for building the systems and campaigns that convert fan interest into measurable revenue, including ticket sales, memberships, and partner value, while establishing scalable marketing infrastructure from the ground up.
The ideal candidate is a data-driven, results-oriented marketer who excels at optimizing digital platforms, managing full-funnel campaigns, and translating audience insights into action. They thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment and bring a strong balance of analytical rigor, creativity, and accountability.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and execute a full-funnel performance marketing strategy to drive ticket sales, deposits, memberships, and other revenue streams
- Own paid media planning, buying, and optimization across platforms (Meta, Google/YouTube, TikTok, programmatic, etc.)
- Build and manage fan acquisition and retargeting funnels from awareness through conversion
- Partner with ticketing, partnerships, and marketing teams to align campaigns with revenue goals and key moments (on-sale dates, promotions, events)
- Collaborate with the Social & Content Manager to ensure creative is optimized for performance and conversion
- Lead CRM and lifecycle marketing strategy (email, SMS, segmentation, personalization) in partnership with internal or external resources
- Analyze campaign performance, track KPIs, and deliver actionable insights to continuously improve ROI
- Manage marketing technology stack (ad platforms, CRM, analytics tools) and identify opportunities to enhance capabilities
- Partner with digital/product teams to optimize website and landing page experiences to improve conversion rates
- Support partnership and sponsorship initiatives by integrating performance-driven campaigns that deliver measurable value
- Build and maintain reporting frameworks and dashboards to track performance across all channels and campaigns
What We're Looking For
- A digitally fluent, performance-driven marketer who can translate audience attention into measurable revenue
- Strategic thinker and hands-on operator, equally comfortable building full-funnel strategy and optimizing day-to-day campaign performance
- Experienced across performance and commerce marketing channels including paid social, paid search, programmatic, and lifecycle marketing (email/SMS)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify insights, and translate them into actionable growth strategies
- Builder mindset, motivated by creating systems, testing new approaches, and shaping how a brand enters market from the ground up
- Deeply customer and fan-centric, with an instinct for reaching the right audience with the right message at the right time
- Comfortable in fast-paced, evolving environments where experimentation, iteration, and accountability are expected
- A collaborative partner who works effectively across creative, content, ticketing, partnerships, and digital teams
- Passion for sports, live entertainment, and building a brand that connects with community and culture
Qualifications
- 4–6 years of experience in performance marketing, growth marketing, or digital marketing (sports, entertainment, DTC, or live events preferred)
- Proven track record of driving measurable results across paid media and digital channels
- Strong understanding of marketing funnels, attribution models, and conversion optimization
- Hands-on experience with paid media platforms (Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, TikTok Ads, etc.)
- Experience with CRM and lifecycle marketing (email, SMS, segmentation strategies)
- Analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into clear actions and strategies
- Experience managing budgets and optimizing for efficiency and scale
- Collaborative approach with strong communication skills across creative and business teams
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously
- Passion for sports and building something from the ground up
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and external partners
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand and utilize a computer for extended periods of time
- Communicate via phone and email with a variety of individuals
- Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift up to 15 lbs with or without accommodation
- Physically navigate stairs and catwalks event facilities during work hours and events with or without accommodation
- Ability to work extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)
- May be required to travel to other team / venue locations
- May be required to attend conference, events, and training sessions within Northern California or in- or out-of-state locations
