MLV NorCal is part of Major League Volleyball (MLV), a unified professional women’s volleyball league launching in 2027 in the Bay Area and Sacramento. Position Overview
The Director of Marketing will lead the strategy and execution of marketing efforts for a new professional women’s volleyball team in Northern California. This role is responsible for building the brand from the ground up, driving fan engagement and revenue, and delivering a cohesive experience across digital, social, and live events.
The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller, data-driven marketer, and strong people leader who thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment.
What You’ll Do
Brand & Marketing Strategy
- Lead overall marketing strategy and brand development, the development and execution of the organization’s overall marketing strategy
- Build and steward the brand identity, voice, and positioning across all platforms
- Ensure consistency and excellence across all fan-facing touchpoints
Content, Creative & Social
- Oversee social media, content strategy, PR/Comms and publishing across all platforms (website, app, SMS, etc.)and communications across all platforms
- Lead Direct creative direction for graphic design, motion design, photography, and video production creating an in-house creative studio to support the organization’s content needs production (design, video, digital) and storytelling
- Build compelling, culturally relevant storytelling that drives fan growth and engagement
Live Experience & Presentation
- Oversee Lead game presentation, and in-venue entertainment, and fan engagement including:
- Mascot program
- Emcee, PA announcer, and DJ
- In-game programming, production and run-of-show
- Street team and fan engagement initiatives
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure the live experience reflects and elevates the brand while supporting partnership, merchandise and sales initiativesEnsure Live events align with brand and revenue goals
Performance & Growth Marketing
- Lead performance marketing efforts across paid, owned and earned channels
- Drive ticket sales , group sales, and fan acquisition through targeted campaigns, growth through targeted campaigns
- Optimize campaigns through data, insights, and testing
Commerce & Merchandise
- Oversee merchandise / F&B strategies in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
- Align product storytelling, launches, and marketing campaigns to drive revenue and meet or exceed organizational KPIs
Partnership & Revenue Integration
- Collaborate with Partnerships team to ideate and execute integrated marketing activations
- Ensure sponsor deliverables are executed creatively and effectively within the brand
Team Leadership & Development
- Build and, lead , and mentor a high-performing marketing team, including:
- Social & content
- Creative (design, photo/video)
- Game presentation & fan engagement staff
- Manage external agencies, freelancers, and production partners as needed

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field
- 7+ years of marketing experience, preferably in sports, entertainment, or live events
- Experience leading teams and managing cross-functional projects
- Strong background in digital, social, content, and performance marketing
- Experience overseeing creative production and live event presentation
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand and utilize a computer for extended periods of time
- Communicate via phone and email with a variety of individuals
- Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift up to 15 lbs with or without accommodation
- Physically navigate stairs and catwalks event facilities during work hours and events with or without accommodation
- Ability to work extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)
- May be required to travel to other team / venue locations
- May be required to attend conference, events, and training sessions within Northern California or in- or out-of-state locations
