Social Media and Marketing Manager

Old Glory DC, the professional men’s rugby team, is seeking an innovative, strategic, and enthusiastic Social Media and Marketing Manager to lead our digital presence and marketing initiatives, driving engagement and brand growth. This role is central to our vision to pioneer the future of sports and entertainment, focusing on developing, creating, publishing, and analyzing digital content performance for Old Glory DC of Major League Rugby, Young Glory (our youth development non-profit), and the Cross Tackle Academy. We are committed to developing rugby talent in the Mid-Atlantic region and growing fandom, guided by our key values of community, mutual respect, integrity, and solidarity. This highly collaborative position will work across all revenue and brand areas to strategically apply content themes and stories to support the business.
This is a hybrid position that requires weekly travel to Washington, DC, Springfield, VA and/or Fairfax, VA as needed. Home matches are played at George Mason Stadium from April - June.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, create, and publish engaging social media content across all Old Glory DC channels (YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, BlueSky, LinkedIn) to increase brand affinity and drive growth.
- Craft compelling and engaging content for social media, web, and mobile platforms that tells a brand story and supports integrated marketing and PR campaigns.
- Maintain an active and engaging presence across all social media channels, actively monitoring fan feedback.
- Manage a comprehensive content publishing calendar, ensuring organized, accountable, and shareable planning of initiatives.
- Monitor and report weekly on content performance, utilizing analytics to refine content strategy and inform business decisions regarding fan sentiment and audience analysis.
- Develop and activate dynamic content plans for live events, including regular season and playoff matches, community activations, and player practices as necessary.
- Hire and manage game day photographers and videographers.
- Regularly engage with players, coaches, rugby operations staff, broadcasters, alumni, and other key contributors to content initiatives.
- Collaborate on multi-channel marketing campaigns to drive ticket and merchandise sales, event attendance, and youth program registrations.
- Work closely with leadership to ensure marketing efforts align with overall brand goals and objectives.
- Support sponsorship activations by developing co-branded content and ensuring all sponsor deliverables are met.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in digital marketing, preferably within a high-performing marketing organization or the sports and entertainment industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong understanding and advocacy for effective process and project management.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of the latest social media/online culture, jargon, and technical features.
- Experience managing social media channels within the sports and entertainment industry.
- Proficiency with digital publishing/CMS platforms and basic HTML knowledge.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
- Familiarity with Canva.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable sharing ideas across functions and to different organizational levels.
- Ability to multitask effectively in an ambiguous environment where quick decisions are often required.
- Self-starter with the initiative to work independently and creatively solve problems.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and comply with communicated deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and utilize a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to communicate via phone and email with a variety of individuals.
- Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead, and lift up to 25 lbs. with or without accommodation.
- Ability to physically navigate stairs and stadia at facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation.
- Must be available to work all home matches in season (April-June).
- Required travel to team meetings, games and practices in Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia.
