Reports To: RRS Technology Coordinator / Director of Match Officials
Location: In-Stadium (multiple locations across the league)
Type: Part-Time / Seasonal
Compensation: $250 match day stipend (up to 4 hours of work)

Role Summary
The In-Stadium Replay Operator (ISRO) is an essential part of the Referee Review System (RRS), embedded directly with the referee team during Major League Rugby matches. This role provides live, in-game support to the center referee and two assistant referees, ensuring clear communication, technical system integrity, and real-time situational tracking. Additionally, the ISRO will provide reviews of key moments for broadcast and the in-stadium crowd. This is a field-side, high-performance role suited to individuals who can maintain focus under pressure, work with emerging officiating technology, and provide reliable support in a team-oriented environment. Rugby experience is not required—full training and match-day kit
will be provided. Applicants will be required for all 5 home games at their respective facility. No exceptions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and manage in-game communication and technology tools (e.g., comms units, Hudl, Sportscode, and other match official hardware).
  • Monitor game action and work with the referee team to ensure timely and accurate decisions are made. 
  • Log key match events and decision moments using Hudl and Sportscode.
  • Serve as a neutral support presence, helping the referee team stay focused, connected, and informed.
  • Liaise discreetly with technical zone staff where appropriate.
  • Ensure match-day readiness, including gear check, positioning, and contingency plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality, composure, and operational discipline throughout the match.
  • Breakdown and secure all RSS equipment after the game.

Preferred Backgrounds
  • Live event ops, sports production, military, stage management, officiating, or team sport support roles.
  • Experience in performance-focused or high-stress work environments is a plus.

Training & Equipment
  • Comprehensive training will be provided prior to your first assignment, including:
    • Referee system orientation
    • Communication protocol
    • Use of in-stadium tech tools and match-day checklist
  • Official kit and match-day equipment will be issued for use throughout the season.

Success Indicators
  • Referee team experiences uninterrupted, high-quality in-game support.
  • Critical match moments are logged accurately and in real time.
  • Technology functions smoothly with minimal downtime or error.
  • Seamless presentation of in-game action both on broadcast and in the stadium.
  • The ISRO is recognized as a calm, neutral, and trusted presence in the officiating team.
