Position Overview:
Major League Rugby (MLR) is seeking a dynamic and visionary SVP of Marketing to lead league-wide marketing, brand strategy, fan engagement, and revenue-driving initiatives. The SVP will play a critical role in growing the league’s visibility, audience size, and commercial value through centralized marketing operations. A key support arm to the Executive Team, this role requires a data-driven leader with experience scaling professional brands.

Key Responsibilities:

Brand Strategy & Growth
  • Develop and execute a centralized marketing strategy to elevate the MLR brand nationally and internationally.
  • Define and enforce brand guidelines across all teams, media assets, and sponsorship activations.
  • Position MLR as a modern, engaging, and culturally relevant sports property.

Fan Acquisition & Engagement
  • Lead multi-channel campaigns focused on the fan growth funnel: reach, engagement, conversion, and retention.
  • Oversee digital and social content strategies to drive impressions, engagement, and CRM acquisition.
  • Utilize data and insights to enhance fan experience and personalize touchpoints across platforms.

Ticketing & Revenue Marketing
  • Partner with centralized ticketing to deliver demand-generating campaigns and drive advance ticket sales, season passes, and attendance KPIs.
  • Develop and implement integrated marketing plans supporting individual clubs while driving national-level objectives.

Media & Sponsorship Marketing
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to create assets and campaigns that support sponsor and media partner activation.
  • Enhance media value by growing content engagement, CPM metrics, and rights negotiations through marketing impact.

Data & Performance Management
  • Own marketing KPI dashboards (e.g., impressions, conversions, database growth, media value).
  • Use performance data to iterate, optimize, and report ROI on all campaigns.
  • Champion CRM growth and audience segmentation strategies in collaboration with digital and ticketing teams.

Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership in marketing, open to various industries
  • Proven track record of growing customer/fan basis and delivering measurable marketing impact.
  • Deep understanding of modern digital marketing, content distribution, and fan engagement tools.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills across centralized and cross-functional environments.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, growth-oriented organizations.

Preferred:
  • Knowledge of or passion for rugby and emerging sports markets.
  • Familiarity with centralized league marketing models.
  • Experience working with agencies, sponsors, and broadcast/media partners.
  • Experience building or working within a centralized marketing environment.
