Job Summary
LOVB Nebraska is seeking an experienced Director of Communications & Digital Media to lead all public relations, media strategy, and digital communications efforts for our professional volleyball team. This role will oversee media relations, sports information, website management, and social media strategy to elevate the LOVB Nebraska brand, grow fan engagement, and drive visibility locally and nationally.
The Director of Communications & Digital Media will serve as the primary media contact for the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Own and execute the overall communications and media strategy for LOVB Nebraska, ensuring alignment with league initiatives and organizational priorities.
- Serve as the primary media contact for the team.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national media.
- Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, feature pitches, and official team communications.
- Manage all sports information functions.
- Oversee game-day media operations, including credentialing, press access, interview coordination, and media hospitality.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy across all platforms to drive engagement, audience growth, and brand consistency.
- Oversee content planning and creation, including graphics, video, behind-the-scenes storytelling, and match coverage.
- Manage website content, including news stories, player bios, statistics, and announcements, ensuring accuracy and brand alignment.
Monitor analytics and performance metrics across digital and social platforms to optimize reach and engagement. - Collaborate closely with marketing, ticketing, partnerships, and event operations to amplify campaigns, drive attendance, and enhance the fan experience.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with league leadership on communications initiatives, reporting, and compliance.
- Develop scalable communications processes, tools, and best practices appropriate for a startup professional volleyball organization.
- Recruit, manage, and develop communications staff, freelancers, interns, and content creators as the department grows.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proven leadership experience in public relations, sports communications, or digital media, preferably in sports or live events.
- Strong working knowledge of media relations strategy, social media platforms, and digital analytics tools.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to lead from the front and establish a best-in-class communications operation in a startup environment.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-development skills.
- Strategic thinker with a creative approach to building brand visibility and volleyball fandom.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, ticketing, partnerships, and operations teams.
- Demonstrated discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- High degree of flexibility, adaptability, and enthusiasm in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Prior experience in professional sports, college athletics, live events, or entertainment preferred.
- Experience serving as a primary media contact or communications lead strongly preferred.
- Experience managing social media strategy and content creation required.
- Demonstrated success building brand awareness and generating earned media coverage.
Working Conditions
- Primary work location is LOVB Nebraska headquarters in Omaha, NE.
- Occasional travel for league meetings, events, or media opportunities.
Attendance at all home events is required.
Ability to work nights and weekends during the season.
