The Pittsburgh Thunderbirds, Pittsburgh’s Professional ultimate frisbee team, is seeking a Merchandise Operations Intern for the 2025–26 season. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sports business, combining event operations, ticket sales, and sponsorship sales.

As a Merchandise Operations Intern, you will build processes for smooth and efficient execution of Pittsburgh Thunderbirds home games at Highmark Stadium. This will include the set-up and break-down of our merchandise table, the execution of our sales strategies, mapping out our inventory, and building fan relationships through the buying process.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with our merchandise table all six (6) Thunderbirds home games including: set-up, breakdown, and selling.
  • Manage the display and organization of team merchandise to ensure a professional and engaging table presence. 
  • Track inventory before, during, and after each game.
  • Process payments using point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently. 
  • Maintain strong, ongoing relationships with fans and staff members.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Outgoing, approachable, and comfortable engaging with the public.
  • Strong organizational skills and reliability — able to balance multiple projects.
  • Comfortable handling money and operating a point-of-sale system. 
  • Self-motivated and entrepreneurial mindset. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional presence.
  • Ability to work on your feet for several hours and work in an outside environment in the summer. 
  • Ability to work weekends from April – August.
Education and Experience

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in sports marketing, sales, business, communications, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in sales, customer service, marketing, or event operations is a plus but not required.
