The Detroit Mechanix, Michigan’s professional ultimate frisbee team competing in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA), are looking for a Game Day Hype Specialist to bring our mascot, Rusty the Wrench, to life. Rusty is not just a costume — he’s the ultimate hype machine, the face of fun, and the spark that keeps our fans on their feet.
If you love entertaining crowds, thrive on high-energy environments, and are ready to turn game days into unforgettable experiences, this role is for you. You’ll be the heartbeat of the fan experience in Lansing and represent the Mechanix brand at events across the state.
Responsibilities:
- Perform as Rusty the Wrench at all home games, driving fan energy and creating lasting memories
- Engage fans with skits, high-fives, dances, and interactions that keep the atmosphere lively and fun
- Appear at preseason and community events across Michigan to spread Mechanix pride and visibility
- Work with the game-day operations team to execute promotions, contests, and crowd entertainment
- Stay in character as Rusty at all times, embodying positivity, humor, and approachability
- Maintain the Rusty costume, ensuring it is game-ready and presentable for every event
Qualifications:
- Outgoing, energetic personality with a passion for live entertainment
- Ability to perform in costume for extended periods of time in a physically active role
- Comfortable improvising and interacting with fans of all ages in a family-friendly way
- Reliable and committed to attending all scheduled games and appearances
- Previous experience as a mascot, performer, or in theater is a plus but not required
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and community events as needed
