The Chicago Union is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and experienced Youth Lead Coach to help lead and manage our youth programming across Chicagoland. This is an ideal opportunity for a teacher, educator, or school-based professional looking for meaningful additional income through the summer and selective evenings during the school year. We are especially interested in candidates who live in Chicago’s north or west suburbs and have coaching experience or a strong background in ultimate frisbee.
Position Overview
This is primarily an administrative, logistics, and communication-based leadership role focused on ensuring our youth programs run smoothly. The Youth Lead Coach will oversee staffing, scheduling, registrations, partner communication, and operational planning across our camps and leagues. The role also includes some on-field coaching responsibilities:
- Select daytime park district partnership camps during the summer
- League and academy programs during the fall, winter, and spring (typically 1–2 evenings per week)
This is an excellent fit for someone who enjoys organization, people management, and youth sports, while still wanting some direct coaching involvement.
Key Responsibilities
Administration and Operations
- Manage day-to-day youth program logistics across camps, leagues, and academies
- Respond to parent, coach, and partner communications in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain participant rosters and registration updates
- Coordinate equipment distribution across coaches and locations
- Track schedules, staffing needs, and participation numbers
Staffing and Coach Management
- Recruit, hire, and onboard seasonal summer coaches
- Train coaches on curriculum, expectations, safety procedures, and professionalism
- Build weekly schedules based on geography, availability, and projected participation
- Be on call when coaches are unavailable or emergencies arise
- Provide oversight and support to coaching staff throughout the season
Park District and Community Partnerships
- Communicate with park districts regarding camp schedules, participant numbers, and logistics
- Confirm registration totals ahead of each camp
- Send invoices and follow-up materials to park districts
- Help maintain strong relationships with Chicagoland community partners
Coaching Responsibilities
- Lead or assist at select summer daytime camps
- Coach evening beginner leagues and academy sessions during fall, winter, and spring (typically 1–2 nights weekly)
- Help create a positive, energetic, and developmental environment for athletes
Special Events
- Assist with planning and execution of our overnight camp at Northwestern University from June 28 through July 3
- Support staffing, logistics, and camper experience for overnight camp
Ideal Candidate
- Current teacher, school employee, or someone with reliable school-year income seeking supplemental work
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Coaching experience in youth sports required
- Knowledge of ultimate frisbee required
- Comfortable managing emails, scheduling systems, and multiple moving pieces
- Reliable, professional, and solution-oriented
- Able to travel throughout Chicagoland as needed
- Passionate about youth development and growing the sport of ultimate
Schedule
Summer (Primary Season)
- More consistent weekly workload focused on camps, staffing, logistics, and communication
- Some weekday daytime coaching responsibilities
Fall / Winter / Spring
- Reduced part-time workload
- Administrative support as needed
- Coaching leagues and academy programs approximately 1–2 evenings per week
Compensation
