General Purpose:
USA Wrestling is seeking a Strength & Performance Specialist that will provide strength and conditioning service, education, performance testing/tracking and consultation to the USA Wrestling National & Developmental team athletes, at the Colorado Springs U.S Olympic and Paralympic Center as well as across the country.

Objectives and Responsibilities: 
  • Design and implement comprehensive, periodized sport-specific strength and conditioning programs that will develop the physical and physiological skills needed to enhance elite athlete performance for USA Wrestling athletes.
  • Track and monitor performance data and ensure the validity, accuracy, and reliability of all physiology test data. 
  • Provide active involvement in the physiological evaluation of elite athletes, with an emphasis on developing a focused interest and specialization in USA Wrestling athletes.
  • Serve as a resource to national team coaches regarding strength and conditioning practices for their athletes.
  • Demonstrated improvement in athlete performance metrics year-over-year.
  • Acquire working knowledge of the range of applied services (nutrition, sport psychology, sports medicine, etc.) offered within USOPC Sport Performance to facilitate athlete support and collaboration with other professionals.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with outside organizations that may contribute to elite sport performance, either directly or indirectly.
  • Oversee the scheduling of resident and visiting athletes and short-term training camps at the CSOPTC.  Keep accurate records of weight room usage. 
  • Develop positive and productive working relationships with other USOPC & USA Wrestling divisions (e.g., USA Wrestling Regional Training Centers, Olympic & Paralympic Training Centers, Games Operations, Sports Medicine) to provide effective service to athletes and coaches.
  • Evaluate the efficacy and effectiveness of S&C service provision via athlete and coach feedback.  Take proactive steps to reinforce proficiencies and rectify deficiencies.
  • Educate conditioning coaches & High-Performance staff in new effective training techniques to ensure that they are kept abreast of new developments in the area of athletic conditioning.
  • Play an active role in the development of new sports education content for coaches and clubs.
  • Collaborate with all members of High-Performance team (Sports Dieticians, Sports Psychologists, Sports Technologist, Sports Medicine & Sports Education staff) to drive world leading, multidisciplinary support to USA Wrestling athletes and coaches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required:
  • Licensure or certification: (one of the following)
    • National Strength & Conditioning Association:  Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist 
    • Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association:  Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified
    • USA Weightlifting:  Level 1
  • Must be able to successfully pass a USA Wrestling background screening (prior to hire date). 
  • Must successfully complete SafeSport Certification within two weeks of hire date and prior to interacting with athletes. 
  • Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology or related field preferred. 
  • Experience training elite athletes in the sports field. With demonstrated experience developing programs that integrate some or all the following:
    • Strength and power development
    • Plyometrics
    • Speed, agility, and quickness
    • Mobility and flexibility
    • Metabolic training
    • Physical and physiologic testing and data evaluation
  • Experience in athlete testing, monitoring, and tracking of performance data. 

Preferred:
  • Current certification in CPR/First Aid is preferred.  
    • If not, ability to secure within one month of initial start date is expected.  
  • Minimum of five years’ experience within the related field. 
  • Experience working with collegiate athletes or professional level.

Skills:                                 
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate proper techniques/skills involved in a strength and conditioning program.
  • Proven ability to promote sport performance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, specifically with athletes and staff.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills to work closely with athletes, coaches, and other professional staff. 
  • Have the ability to motivate and clearly communicate the plans designed for each athlete.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of working with strength equipment. 

Travel Expectations: 
Domestic and international travel including weekends is required. 

Hiring Pay Range:
Compensation commensurate with experience.
$80,000 - $90,000 per year.
