Para Classification and Development Coordinator

This position will lead national classification activities, annual athlete licensing, and athlete development initiatives for Para Track & Field.  This position will work closely with the Director, Paralympics track & field to administer and implement Para track & field classification systems and strategies.  This role will lead the process of competition approvals through World Para Athletics (WPA).  This role will closely collaborate with USATF staff across various projects and contribute to the implementation of Para goals and priorities.  The coordinator will play a key role in supporting classification, athlete licensing and the growth and development of Para Track & Field in the U.S..

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Manage annual athlete licensing process through WPA. This includes  distributing forms, managing paperwork, and tracking and ensuring compliance with timelines. 
  • Serve as the first point of contact for new athletes, coaches, officials, parents, etc. for TPP and emerging elite athletes.  Support and monitor communication, inquiries and databases for this group. 
  • Manage the classification eligibility system for Para Track & Field and ensure compliance with United States Olympic & Paralympic (USOPC) and WPA. 
  • Lead talent identification efforts for Para Track & Field. 
  • Responsible for verification of eligibility requirements for the Para track & field VMAA program. 
  • Assist with warehouse and inventory management for Para specific initiatives. 
  • Manage WPA competition approval process and submit official competition results to WPA as needed. 
  • Assist in the processing and tracking of invoices and payments as necessary. 
  • Serve as administrative liaison with USATF disability committee. 
  • Coordinate annual updates to athlete records for Tier, TPP, Emerging & Development athletes. 
  • Coordinate and execute special projects and events as assigned and other duties (not listed), as assigned. 
  • Assist in compliance efforts with USOPC, USATF, WADA, USADA, WPA and other relevant organizations supporting Para Track & Field.

 QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in sport management  
  • 1-2 year’s experience working with sport program, logistics & team operations, preferably in a Paralympic setting. 
  • Experience working with athletes with physical, visual and/or cognitive impairments in a sport organizing setting is a plus. ·         General knowledge of disabilities and impairments is a plus.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail · 
  • Exceptional communication skills including written and verbal. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) · 
  • Comfortable working in a team environment and collaborating across departments. 
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Customer service mindset with a solution-oriented approach.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
  • Must be able to lift equipment 25-40 pounds. 
  • Must be able and willing to be on your feet for extended periods of time during competitions.

NON-PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally and work irregular hours including on-call hours.
