Position Summary:

The Marketing Manager is a collaborative, community-centric role focused on elevating the story and visibility of rugby in the United States. This position works closely with the three community councils—Senior Club, College, and Youth & High School— to develop and align messaging that celebrates the sport’s values, showcases its impact, and attracts new participants across all levels. The Manager will lead national community marketing strategies while empowering the rugby community to tell its story and grow the game together.

This role plays a key part in achieving USA Rugby’s shared goals: increasing total membership by 10%, improving member retention by 35,000+, and driving visibility and engagement through high-quality community storytelling.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Marketing Leadership

  • Develop and execute an integrated national community marketing strategy in partnership with USA Rugby and the three community councils.
  • Create synergy and support for council-level and club-level marketing and social media efforts.
  • Facilitate collaboration across community levels to amplify a unified call to action: Join us on the pitch.
  • Utilize High-Performance athletes and coaches to inspire and connect with the next generation of players and fans.

Community-Centered Storytelling & Content Creation

  • Create, highlight, amplify stories, tournaments, events, and people across all levels of community rugby.
  • Develop and create content specifically for and about the grassroots rugby community to showcase what makes American rugby special.
  • Support the storytelling and content coverage of USA Rugby referees and match officials. 
  • Establish new content pipelines and expand USA Rugby’s social and digital footprint, including the creation of new channels and tools where needed.
  • Develop and create content specifically focused on each council’s key tournaments & events in their annual rugby calendars.

Council Collaboration & Support

  • Serve as a partner—not an overseer—to the Senior Club, College, and Youth & High School councils.
  • Align messaging and outreach efforts across councils while supporting each individual council's unique identity and goals.
  • Host regular marketing collaboration touchpoints with council representatives to ensure shared visibility, alignment, and momentum.

Best Practices & Performance Measurement

  • Develop and distribute a “Marketing Best Practices” communication for the councils and their clubs.
  • Build and share a quarterly marketing report that measures impact and provides insights across all levels.
  • Provide simple tools to help council and club leaders evaluate success of marketing activities/ campaigns and identify opportunities to improve engagement.

Partnership & Sponsorship Marketing

  • Support the promotion of community-focused partnerships through shared platforms and storytelling.
  • Coordinate with councils to identify and pursue meaningful sponsorship opportunities that elevate visibility and generate shared value.
  • Align with the USA Rugby commercial team to target partnerships that benefit and expand the reach of the community game.

Brand Management & Digital Strategy

  • Steward the USA Rugby brand across all digital and public platforms, ensuring an inclusive and consistent message.
  • Manage website content, email marketing, and national social media accounts with a focus on visibility, engagement, and conversion.
  • Monitor content performance and engagement analytics to guide strategic adjustments and improvements.

Scope and Boundaries

  • This is not an oversight role. The Marketing Manager does not manage council operations or internal decision-making.
  • Rather, this role exists to elevate, connect, and amplify the incredible work happening across the community landscape.
  • The Marketing Manager is an operational role actively developing marketing campaigns and creating content for and in collaboration with each council.

Qualifications:

  • Proven success in marketing, communications, or brand strategy, ideally within sport or community development.
  • Excellent storytelling, content creation, and digital engagement skills.
  • Experience in graphic and video content creates, preferably Photoshop, CapCut and Canva.
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively across councils, volunteer networks, and national teams.
  • Deep understanding of the rugby landscape in the U.S., including the distinct roles and identities of Senior Club, College, and Youth & High School.
  • Experience managing digital platforms, marketing campaigns, and analytics tools.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.

Compensation:
  • Salary range of $60,000 - $80,000
