Job Description: The Boys Engagement Manager will work remotely with the National Development Director and Sport Development Team to drive the growth of boys’ field hockey in the United States, leveraging the excitement of the LA28 Olympic Games to measurably expand participation. This dynamic role focuses on creating sustainable recreational opportunities to discover, play and learn, and compete and improve in field hockey, in targeted "hotspots" across the country. The position is to expand awareness, interest, engagement, and opportunities for boys to play field hockey from grassroots to recreational levels, ultimately feeding into USA Field Hockey’s Men’s Olympic Pathway programming.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Advocacy & Awareness: Act as a passionate advocate for boys’ field hockey, both within USA Field Hockey and externally, to raise awareness and excitement. Continue to publish quarterly Boys and Men’s (BAM) Newsletter to drive targeted communication.
  • Network Building: Identify, engage, and build relationships with key influencers, individuals, and organizations to expand interest and opportunities for boys to try, play, and compete in field hockey. 
  • Collaboration with US Men’s Field Hockey Foundation: Network and work closely with the US Men’s Field Hockey Foundation, with an immediate focus on implementing and promoting the Tom Harris Boys Play Field Hockey Grant Program to develop sustainable boys’ field hockey hotspots across the US.
  • Cross-Organization Collaboration: Network and create boys’ playing opportunities by partnering with established multi-sport organizations such as YMCAs, Park & Recreation Departments, and School Districts to integrate field hockey into their programming.
  • Outreach to Other Sports: Proactively engage with team sports clubs and leagues (e.g., lacrosse, soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis) to form partnerships that encourage their athletes to try and play field hockey, fostering cross-sport participation.
  • Point of Contact: Serve as the primary resource and support for individuals and organizations starting or growing boys’ field hockey programs.
  • National Boys Engagement Team Support: Lead, collaborate and grow the volunteer National Boys Engagement Team to provide support, resources, and strategic direction to drive the growth of boys’ field hockey nationwide.
  • State Chapter Support: Facilitate the expansion and recruitment of State Chapters and support the National Boys Engagement Team in organizing volunteer leaders who will transition into State Chapter Boys Chair roles as programs grow.
  • Program Promotion: Communicate boys’ field hockey opportunities to members, stakeholders, clubs, schools, camps, and multi-sport organizations, encouraging the inclusion of boys’ programming.
  • Strategic Growth Plan: Collaborate with the Sport Development Team, Junior High Performance (JHP) Manager, Membership, Nexus, and Events teams to develop and execute a strategic growth plan that connects boys’ engagement from introductory “Discover” programs to talent assessment pathways, with a focus on leveraging the LA28 Olympic Games.
  • Event Development: Support and advocate for creating local, regional, and national events (e.g., events, tournaments, leagues) to drive boys’ participation and growth
  • Grant Writing: Identify and write grant proposals, to secure funding for boys’ field hockey programs, events, and initiatives to support sustainable growth.
  • KPI & Milestones: Achieve measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and milestones to track progress and ensure sustainable growth.
Education:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree, ideally in sports administration, sports management, marketing, business, or a related field. 
  • Licensure & Certification: None required.
Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in growing a youth sports program
  • Proven success in organizing events, tournaments, or leagues.
  • Experience in nonprofit or sport organization fundraising and grant writing are preferred.
  • Field hockey coaching and/or administration knowledge is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and drive membership in a competitive environment.
Skills:

  • High-energy, outgoing, and fun-loving personality with a sincere approach to relationship-building and organizing and inspiring volunteers.
  • Ability/confidence in leading on-field trial programming for adults and/or youth, with coach education training provided as needed.
  • Social media savvy with the ability to leverage platforms to promote boys’ field hockey.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including grant writing proficiency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft 365/Teams).
  • Strong multitasking, time management, and ability to handle competing priorities under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively with a volunteer network and team.
  • Flexible, approachable, and maintains a positive attitude in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
  • Driven by results with a passion for exceeding goals, particularly in the context of the LA28 Olympic Games.
Tools, Equipment, & Conditions:

  • Must pass background check and maintain Safesport Certification, with USA Field Hockey membership
  • Fully remote position with fieldwork and travel required.
  • Ability to lift to 40 lbs., with fieldwork involving prolonged standing, crouching, reaching, and bending in potentially high-noise environments.
  • Proficient operation of basic office equipment and virtual collaboration tools required.
  • Travel, weekend, evening, and occasional holiday work are required.
Work Location:

  • Fully remote, with geographic focus on west coast and/or east coast as determined by USA Field Hockey needs. 
Salary Range:

  • Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
