Member Safety & Organizational Compliance Coordinator

Location: Colorado Springs, CO (Hybrid) or Remote

Reports To: Director of Athlete Safety & Organizational Compliance/General Counsel 

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt  

Position Summary


 USA Fencing seeks a detail-oriented and motivated professional to serve as the Member Safety & Organizational Compliance Coordinator. This position provides critical support to the Director of Athlete Safety & Organizational Compliance and General Counsel in managing USA Fencing’s compliance obligations, member safety programs, and disciplinary processes. The ideal candidate will have legal training and experience working in compliance, investigations, or regulatory matters.
 
 This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional interested in sports governance, compliance, or athlete safety to gain experience in a national-governing body environment.
 
 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

·        Assist with intake, tracking, and documentation of misconduct complaints and disciplinary cases.

·        Support investigative processes, including responding to SafeSport, FIE, WAS, USOPC and USADA requests, organizing case files, preparing drafts of reports and correspondence, coordinating communications with involved parties, scheduling hearings, and investigating low-level matters. 

·        Maintain accurate case records and ensure deadlines are met.

·        Assist the Black Card Review Group and Referee Commission Ethics Committee to manage case list, as needed. 

·        Assist in monitoring USA Fencing’s compliance with the U.S. Center for SafeSport (USCSS), U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), International Fencing Federation (FIE), World Ability Sport (WAS) and other regulatory requirements.

·        Assist in preparing compliance audits, reports, and communications to oversight organizations.

·        Conduct research on policy updates, best practices, and regulatory trends.

·        Assist with Board and committee support functions, including attendance at meetings, preparation of agendas, minutes, and recordkeeping.

·        Provide logistical and administrative support for Nominating, Ethics, and Disciplinary Committees.

·        Assist in coordinating SafeSport training, resources, and educational initiatives for athletes, coaches, parents, and clubs.

·         Coordinate educational training, resources, and educational initiatives for athletes, coaches, parents, and clubs.

·        Assist in creating and updating compliance and safety-related communications, including website, email, and social media content.

·        Respond to member inquiries regarding SafeSport, background checks, and compliance requirements and assist with membership with troubleshooting issues. 

·        Assist with membership database monitoring related to background checks and training compliance.

·        Provide on-site support at national events as needed and agreed.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

·        1–3 years of experience in compliance, legal, risk management, investigations or regulatory support.

·        Strong organizational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.

·        Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

·        Strong writing and communication skills, particularly in preparing reports and correspondence.

·        Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience with preferred databases.

Preferred Qualifications

·        Bachelor's degree or higher in law, compliance, regulatory practice or related field, or experience commensurate with the same.

·        Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal training preferred.

·        Experience working in sports governance, nonprofit organizations, or with national governing bodies or highly related fields.

·        Familiarity with the US Center for SafeSport, athlete & member safety programs, or youth protection policies or highly related fields.

·        Experience managing case files, compliance audits, or investigative support.

·        Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

 

Starting Salary Range 

  • $55-60k annually – Commensurate with experience
Work Environment

·        Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends for events or urgent compliance matters, typically including some travel.

·        Some travel is required.

 Other Information

  • The USA Fencing National Office is in Colorado Springs, CO; ability to work from National Office is preferred. Candidates from throughout the U.S. will be considered. Remote employees will travel more frequently than previously stated.
