A brand new bespoke Sports and high Academic institution, backed by UK-based Cognita, a leading owner and operator of private academic institutions worldwide, is a multi-sport boarding and day school designed to provide high level sport and academic preparation for college entry, launching in September 2026 in Stow MA.

About USA Fencing National Performance Center
As part of the role as the National Academy of USA Fencing, MAI also serves as the National Performance Center of USA Fencing, hosting our National teams throughout the year for training camps and other performance related activity. For clarity, this role primarily manages the MAI Fencing functions, but will have strong liaison with the USA Fencing National Coaches and USA Fencing Sports Performance team

Essential Responsibilities 
  • Establish, lead and direct the Fencing program in all aspects across the School.
  • The Director of Fencing is primarily responsible for recruitment of student athletes in collaboration with the MAI Admissions Team, ensuring compliance with USA Fencing and NCAA compliance policies, collaborating with the Admissions office to ensure appropriate selection of students for the School. 
  • Lead, and be the voice for, the Fencing program within MAI. 
  • Recruit, Lead and Manage two assistant Fencing coaches and armorer. 
  • Liaise and advocate for the Fencing program with performance support functions such as Strength & Conditioning, Video Analysis, Sports Medicine, Sports Psychology, Nutrition and Athlete Wellness.
  • Liaise with USA Fencing’s Chief of Sport Performance, Director of Sports Medicine and National Coaches to ensure alignment with National Coaches.
  • Maintain and ensure relationships with NCAA Fencing coaches to ensure Fencers are prepared for NCAA competition by their participation at MAI.
  • Maintain and ensure strong relationships with coaches, parents and the wider Fencing community.
  • Support and advocate for a healthy, athlete-wellness focused culture amongst the Fencing program.
  • Provide support and instruction in the personal, academic and athletic development of the team, including counseling team members in athletic, academic, disciplinary and personal matters.
  • Schedule use of facilities for practice and competitions. Responsible for arranging a competitive, balanced schedule in coordination with other sports on campus including with performance services.
  • Ensure safety through careful monitoring of the condition of equipment and facilities utilized by the MAI Fencing student athletes. Responsible for requests for repair, maintenance and improvement, including the opening build out, of the Fencing facility to ensure a world class training environment. 
  • Complete all MAI and USA Fencing required institutional training and certification programs, as well as any applicable FIE and World Ability Sport.
  • Ensure inclusion of all 3 weapons of Fencing and the inclusion of Parafencing in the program.
  • Develop and submit the annual budget for the sport to the wider MAI organization. 
  • Lead and arrange all MAI Fencing logistics. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications:
Experience:
  • A minimum of 3-5 coaching experience.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience leading a school or collegiate program. 
  • Significant track record of leading programs to internationally significant results.

Required Certifications:
  • US Center for SafeSport Trained required prior to start.
  • Background Check required prior to start.
