Position Summary
 
USA Cycling is seeking a National Team Head Coach for Para-cycling Road and Track to lead the performance direction and daily training environments for the U.S. National Para-cycling Team. This role is responsible for the technical plan, athlete development pathway, and medal-focused preparation across all sport classes on road and track.
 
The Head Coach will lead the coaching team, oversee performance systems, manage competition preparation, and guide the development of athletes from emerging talent through podium performance. This includes planning and delivering training camps, building evidence-based performance plans, supporting qualification strategies, and leading the team at major international competitions, including World Championships, World Cups, and the Paralympic Games.
 
The coach will supervise the Pathways Coach and oversee the work of independent contractor coaches, ensuring alignment of methods, standards, and expectations across the entire program. This position plays a central role in shaping the performance, culture, advancing coaching practice, and ensuring athletes have the support and structure needed to achieve consistent international success. The Head Coach has primary responsibility for performance strategy, coach alignment, and competitive outcomes.
 
What You’ll Do
 Performance and Technical Leadership
·         Lead the technical direction and coaching methodology across all para-cycling road and track programs

·         Develop annual and quadrennial training plans aligned with “What It Takes to Win” models and USA Cycling’s high-performance strategy

·         Oversee daily training environments, training camp design, and individual performance planning for National Team athletes

·         Collaborate with sport science, medical, performance services, and classification experts to integrate evidence-based support into all performance plans

·         Lead technical preparation and team readiness for the Paralympic Games, World Championships, and World Cups

·         Assess athlete progression through regular reviews, data analysis, and performance monitoring

·         Provide leadership and development opportunities to all coaches working with National Team athletes

Campaign, Competition, and Qualification Leadership
·         Lead the creation of discipline-specific campaign plans across the Paralympic cycle

·         Guide qualification strategies for the Paralympic Games, ensuring clarity and alignment with UCI and IPC systems

·         Manage competition preparation cycles, including race selection, taper plans, logistics coordination, and performance debriefs

·         Ensure all competition environments meet planned performance standards

Coaching Leadership and Development
·         Lead, mentor, and evaluate independent contractor coaches and technical staff supporting National Team athletes

·         Supervise the Pathways Coach and oversee talent identification, athlete onboarding, and long-term development programming

·         Establish clear coaching standards, expectations, and consistent practices across all coaching staff

·         Support ongoing professional development and alignment of coaching practice with evolving para-sport demands

·         Any other duties relevant to the role and assigned by senior leadership

Program and Operational Alignment
·         Coordinate closely with the Sr. Director of Para-cycling to ensure alignment across strategic, technical, and operational plans

·         Oversee preparation and delivery of training camps, classification events, and team travel in collaboration with operations and support staff

·         Ensure that equipment, technology, and performance systems meet program needs and are integrated appropriately across all environments

Culture, Values, and Athlete Support
·         Build a cohesive, inclusive, and athlete-centered high-performance culture across all sport classes

·         Promote a performance environment grounded in clarity, accountability, communication, and respect

·         Ensure classification, athlete wellness, and athlete support considerations are fully integrated into the program’s daily work

·         Foster strong working relationships with athletes, families, and external support networks

 What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate brings significant coaching experience within para-cycling or Paralympic/Olympic high-performance sport and has demonstrated success preparing athletes for international competition. They understand the demands of road and track para-cycling, are comfortable leading staff and athletes, and can build environments that support consistent improvement and medal-focused outcomes. They communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and maintain composed leadership in complex and demanding settings.
 
Required Qualifications
  • Significant coaching experience in high-performance para-cycling or Paralympic/Olympic sport
·         Experience leading teams at major international competitions

·         Strong understanding of classification systems, adaptive equipment, impairment categories, and competition demands

·         Experience developing periodized training plans, performance benchmarks, and athlete development models

·         Ability to lead and coordinate coaches, support staff, and multidisciplinary performance teams

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and alignment across athletes and staff

·         Proficient in using performance analysis tools and applying data-informed decision-making

Preferred Qualifications
  • UCI or USA Cycling coaching license
·         Background in exercise science, human performance, or a related discipline

·         Previous Paralympic, World Championship, or UCI-level coaching experience

·         Strong network in the para-sport or adaptive coaching community

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in an office or remote environment for extended periods
·         Ability to stand for extended periods of time

·         Ability to work in conditions with exposure to extreme weather, such as high and low temperatures and variable precipitation when working at events

·         Ability to travel extensively domestically and/or internationally (estimated up to 40-60% annually) including extended international trips during competition seasons

·         Ability to manage complex information, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment

·         Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds

·         Evenings and weekend work will be required

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range
$65,000 - $75,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
Performance Bonus
Eligible for an annual 5% performance-based bonus
