POSITION SUMMARY
USA Lacrosse is looking for a VP, Philanthropy to lead our strategic and operational vision and execution for the USA Lacrosse Foundation.  You will get to partner with the President & CEO, Leadership team, USA Lacrosse Foundation Board, and USA Lacrosse Operating Board to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and polices to increase philanthropic revenue in support of the USA Lacrosse's mission.

A Typical Day Looks Like…
  • In partnership with the President & CEO and Leadership team, develops and leads the implementation of a comprehensive multi-year strategy to increase fundraising and philanthropic revenue through individual gifts, foundation/government grants, and corporate donors.  
  • Develops and executes innovative activities and programs to drive philanthropic revenue growth, increase constituent engagement, and strengthen USA Lacrosse's relevance and influence by "telling the story” of what USA Lacrosse does so donors understand how their gifts help fuel the growth of lacrosse and field the best National Teams.  
  • Working collaboratively, establishes strong relationships with the Leadership Team, all USAL team members and departments, USA Lacrosse Board members (Foundation & Operating), volunteers, donors, and the community to educate and increase awareness of what the USA Lacrosse Foundation does and how philanthropic revenue impacts the growth of lacrosse and support of our National Teams.  
  • Leads philanthropic relationship, strategies, and compliance with the United States Olympic and Paralympic (USPOC) and the LA28 Games as USA Lacrosse enters Olympic competition.
  • Cultivates new sources of revenue by acquiring, expanding, and/or upgrading the donor base, with an increased focus on grant funding, annual giving, and major gifts.  This includes developing and implementing a stewardship program to cultivate deeper ties with donors.
  • Manages the USA Lacrosse Foundation Board by developing relationships, securing their gifts, and overseeing all related communications and correspondence.  This includes serving in a principal role to represent the Foundation at business meetings, speaking engagements, and attending all Foundation Board related events and activities.   
  • Manages a national portfolio of prospects, ensuring relationships are cultivated and gifts are secured.  
  • Drives a culture of philanthropy across the organization by sharing strategic expertise, resources, and tools to support and empower team members to identify and develop new opportunities and partnerships with donors (individual and corporate).
  • Oversees the Manager, Grants and Programs and the development and execution of all fundraising and grant proposals.  This includes developing annual strategies to target and assess areas of need.   
  • Directs and oversees the research of funding sources and trends, keeping an eye toward positioning the Foundation at the forefront of major funding opportunities to best position USA Lacrosse for optimal fundraising prospects.
 
Is This You…
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience in the field of fundraising, philanthropic giving, and/or program development or related experience.  Experience working on a national and/or regional level preferred.   
  • Previous work experience in a non-profit, association, or other member-based organization a plus.  Proven experience in generating revenue through philanthropic revenue while understanding how to leverage and manage programs for success in a non-profit environment ideal.   
  • Demonstrated experience and success in developing and implementing national fundraising strategies and philanthropic programs while working with internal and external stakeholders to gain buy with a result-oriented mindset.  This includes the ability to establish KPIs and data metrics to track and report on program results/success.     
  • Proven ability to develop and cultivate relationships both inside and outside the organization to drive support for success.  
  • Demonstrated adherence to the highest ethical standards for self and team with a commitment to continued professional growth and development. 
  • Project management skills, including the ability to lead through change and influence stakeholders toward a common vision/goal while working cross-departmentally.   
  • Proven knowledge of fundraising/philanthropy and managing grant processes, including associated principles, compliance, and best practices. 
  • Ability to identify potential donors, develop relationships with the ability to solicit gifts and build relationships with current and prospective donors.  This includes having the ability to “tell the story” of what their gift will allow USAL to do to fuel the growth of lacrosse and field the best National Teams.     
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.  
  • Knowledge of software’s such as Salesforce, or comparable database applications, used to track, monitor, and report on data with the aptitude to learn new software's/programs. Knowledge of WizeHive or similar programs a plus.   
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and keep data organized for thorough analysis and reporting.  
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, written, and verbal.  
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team with a “hands on” mentality.  This includes the ability to be self-managed to work in a hybrid (in-office/work from home) environment.  
  • Ability to manage a team to ensure performance standards are met/exceeded, there is a culture of accountability, and employees have access to professional development to allow them to grow.  
  • Discretion to handle sensitive and confidential matters and information.  
  • Ability to present a professional persona and presence to build relationships and establish credibility.  
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need for developing funds to fuel its development and growth.  
  • Ability to align with USA Lacrosse’s Mission, Vision, and Values and Long-Range Plan to support our initiatives and organizational goals.  
 
Expected Hours of Work
This position is generally expected to work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and occasionally requires longer hours or weekend work as related to events and other business needs.  This is a hybrid position and works from the headquarters office in Sparks, MD three (3) days a week with the flexibility to work from home two (2) days a week.  
 
Travel Requirements
Travel may be necessary up to 50% of the time (local, regional).  Travel would involve the following mode(s) of travel: car, train, or air.  Some out of area and overnight travel may be expected.
