 POSITION SUMMARY
USA Lacrosse is looking for an experienced Director of Finance to lead our accounting and finance functions.  This position will ensure accurate and timely financial statements are maintained and will oversee the implementation and maintenance of USA Lacrosse’s financial controls and processes to safeguard the organization’s assets.  This critical role works closely with the SVP& CFO on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and business development.  The Director of Finance will continually evaluate and seek opportunities to automate the accounting functions to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance department.

 A Typical Day Looks Like…
Finance Operations & Administration
  • Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions.  This includes ensuring timely month end close and preparing internal and external monthly and quarterly financial statements.
  • Establishes practices and procedures to ensure proper internal control safeguards that meet current and future Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and federal and state regulatory requirements.  This includes continually evaluating processes and procedures to maintain and enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Prepares journal entries and supporting schedules, reviews prepared schedules for completeness and accuracy, and reconciles balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Tracks and records capital expenditures, periodically audits assets, and ensures disposals are removed on a timely basis.
  • Plans and coordinates the fiscal year-end audit with external audit firm, Audit Sub-committee, and staff.  
  • Oversees regulatory reporting and compliance and ensures all state and local taxes have been filed on a timely basis.

Reporting & Leadership
  • Leads in development and analysis of the forecast, cashflow, and budget processes.
  • Meets with department Directors and VPs on an ongoing basis to review budget variances and other department analysis to help improve performance and ensure they have the support to meet their specific goals.
  • Develops key performance indicators (KPI's) and analyzes trends, comparing against industry benchmarks. 
  • Mentors and develops the finance department staff, managing work assignments, workflow, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Stays current with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations as they relate to the accounting and finance functions; keeps abreast of current accounting trends and practices and recommends procedural changes at USA Lacrosse as appropriate.


Is This You…
  • Minimum of six (6) years of accounting experience in all areas, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of GAAP.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 products, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience working with a computerized accounting system, prior experience with Salesforce and Sage Intaact a plus.  Experience working with analytical tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn new computer programs and software.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, problem solve, and meet required deadlines. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow up/through skills.  This includes the ability to conduct basic research if something does not look right or there is a discrepancy.   
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal. 
  • Ability to exercise discretion and understand how to handle confidential information when necessary.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a hybrid (in-office/remote work) environment in a fast-paced, "roll up your sleeves" environment that delivers results.   
  • Ability to present a professional and assertive persona to negotiate, build relationships, and establish credibility and trust.   
  • Willingness to learn about the sport of lacrosse and appreciate the need to develop, grow, and fuel the growth of the sport with diversity, inclusion, and equity in mind.   
  • Ability to align with USA Lacrosse’s Mission, Vision, and Values to support our initiatives and organizational goals. 

 
Expected Hours of Work
This position is generally expected to work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and occasionally requires longer hours or weekend work as related to events and other business needs.  This is a hybrid position and works from the headquarters office in Sparks, MD three (3) days a week with the flexibility to work from home two (2) days a week.  


Compensation & Benefits Overview
The base pay range for this position is $85,000.00 to $100,000.00, commensurate with experience, plus opportunity for annual incentive pay.

Travel Requirements
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be requested based on business and event needs.
