JOB DESCRIPTION
PARA NORDIC EQUIPMENT MANAGER & TECHNICIAN
 
CLASSIFICATION: Year-round; Full-time 
FLSA: Exempt 
REPORTS TO: Para Nordic Director/Head Coach
LOCATION: USANA Center for Excellence, Park City, UT
TRAVEL: Approximately 30-40%
SALARY $58,000-$68,000

U.S. Ski & Snowboard is seeking a Para Nordic Equipment Manager & Technician. This is a full-time position eligible for our full benefits package including medical insurance and retirement. For inquiries or help with your application, please email [email protected].
 
SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE 
As part of the Para Nordic High Performance strategy, the Para Nordic Equipment Manager & Technician will exercise principal leadership to provide equipment support for the Para Nordic programs and athletes. The Manager will provide support to athletes and staff in Park City and around the country, as well as on-site at international competitions, and will contribute to overall planning and implementation of the Para Nordic Teams priorities including leading the advancement of Nordic sit ski equipment for the benefit of the National Team athletes.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
●      Athlete Experience at the Elite Level
○      Provide technical coaching to Para Nordic Team athletes in cross country and biathlon disciplines
○      Contribute to the athletes equipment plan
○      Communicate frequently and effectively with all athletes & staff
○      Develop a productive working relationship with each athlete focused on equipment needs and advancement

●      Operational Excellence
○      Design overall strategy to identify, procure, and maintain high performance equipment for Team athletes and the overall National Team program.
○      Lead the execution of equipment preparation and support for Team athletes at international events, including but not limited to FIS & IBU Para Nordic & Biathlon races, World Cup, World Championship, and Paralympic Games competitions.
○      Understand and maintain awareness of all FIS & IBU equipment rules 
○      Lead the execution of equipment preparation and support for Para Nordic athletes at domestic training camps.
○      Lead the advancement of Nordic sit ski equipment for National Team athletes
○      Oversee contracted technician support personnel as needed for domestic and international competitions.
○      Collaborate with staff to oversee and manage the Team equipment inventory in Park City and at satellite equipment locations.
○      Maintain inventory of all team technical equipment including but not limited to ski wax, waxing supplies, sit ski race ski fleet, National Team athlete ski and equipment fleets, and National Team sit skis.
○      Provide wax service and support on all priority competition trips as necessary to provide fastest skis possible for athletes.
○      In collaboration with staff and contractors, coordinate and oversee race support for Para Nordic hosted/sanctioned competitions.
○      Support in coaching duties in Park City, at training camps, and at competitions as needed.
○      Contribute to the annual development of the high performance plan for the Para Nordic program especially related to equipment advancements.
○      In collaboration with other staff, serve as a source of knowledge to elite athletes and coaches on the latest research and studies in high performance Nordic wax, procedures, and equipment.
○      Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all U.S. Ski & Snowboard, U.S. Biathlon, and Para Nordic staff, local/regional/national Nordic programs, and others as is beneficial to the program.
○      Communicate effectively with athletes personal club coaches to provide continuity of care and support with regard to equipment needs.
○      Ensure timely orders and restocking of equipment, wax, tools, and gear.
○      Work proactively with all Para Sport staff and departments of U.S. Ski & Snowboard
○      Assist in the equipment and ski preparation education of club coaches
○      Perform other duties as assigned to support the Para Nordic Team

●      Financial Performance
○      Support the management and tracking of the Team’s equipment budget
○      Ensure regular and timely expense reporting which conforms to the reporting standards established by the CFO

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Incumbents must be able to lift up to 25 pounds (50 with assistance), climb, stand, stoop and work outside in all weather conditions. Job requires travel and work on weekends, nights, holidays and on-call basis.
 
COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE
●      Understands and agrees with US Ski & Snowboard’s values; Grit, Excellence, Team, Fun, Integrity
●      Experience as a Nordic wax technician
●      Experience managing an inventory of equipment for a sports team preferred 
●      Professional experience with Paralympic programs desired 
●      Biathlon equipment & coaching experience and/or willingness to learn
●      Experience in Nordic coaching
●      Experience with industry-standard tools specific to elite Nordic skiing
●      USSS Level 100 coach and/or U.S. Biathlon Level 1 preferred
●      Ability to evaluate critical success factors for Nordic athletes equipment needs
●      Excellent at building relationships, being collaborative, listening, and communication skills
●      A mindset for thinking outside of the box and pushing the boundaries to achieve excellence
●      Strong budgeting and expense management skills
●      Capable computer skills, including email, Microsoft Word and Excel
●      Strong team player with a demonstrated loyalty to the program and the organization
