PARA NORDIC COACH
CLASSIFICATION: Year-round; Full-time
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Para Sport Director
LOCATION: USANA Center for Excellence, Park City, UT
TRAVEL: Approximately 30-40%
SALARY $70,000-$80,000

SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE
The Para Nordic Team Coach will contribute to advancing Para Nordic national team athletes to the highest ranks of Para Nordic competition through World Cup, World Championships, and Paralympic Games Competition in both cross country and biathlon. The position reports to the Para Nordic Head Coach and will work closely with the Para Sport Director and Para Nordic Development Director to execute strategies in the high performance plan including creating opportunities for a stronger pipeline development system.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
● Athlete Experience at the Elite Level
○ Provide technical coaching, guidance, and support to Para Nordic Team athletes in cross country and biathlon disciplines
○ Contribute to the athlete has an individualized plan (annual and long term)
○ Communicate frequently and effectively with all athletes & staff
○ Ensure the completion of all Reports as defined by Team protocol (e.g. Camp Reports, Injury Reports, Expense Reports, Athlete Reports, etc…)
○ Develop a productive working relationship with each athlete
○ Understand and support management of athletes’ equipment during all training and competition projects
○ Assist in coordination with the High Performance and Medical departments regarding injuries, athlete rehabilitation and program integration
● Operational Excellence
○ Work closely with the Para Sport Director & Head Coach with regarding general program goals, direction, plans, progress, and initiatives
○ Contribute to the implementation and success of the Para Nordic Team’s annual high performance planning and implementation
○ In consultation with the Head Coach, lead the development of athlete training plans and tracking of training outcomes
○ Support the Director of Development in recruiting and coaching development athletes and consulting on their training planning
○ Communicate effectively with athletes personal club coaches to provide continuity of care and support with regard to training and recovery needs
○ Support equipment management as needed with regards to the Para Nordic Team equipment inventory in Park City and at satellite equipment locations
○ Contribute to the ordering and maintenance of equipment, wax, tools, and gear
○ Provide leadership and direction to contract coaches and other program staff
○ Assist the Head Coach with all training and competition responsibilities
○ Attend all race competition meetings and stay up on all FIS and IBU rules
○ Execute video sessions, lactate analysis, and equipment management
○ Work proactively with all Para Sport staff and all departments of U.S. Ski & Snowboard
○ Participate on staff at key national development projects and initiatives
○ Assist in the education and development of personal club coaches
○ Contribute to Coach and athlete education initiatives as driven by Para Nordic Development Director
○ Continue to pursue knowledge and education in nordic ski racing, para sport, and athletic development
○ Perform other duties as assigned to support the optimal running of the Para Nordic Team
○ Work with Head Coach and Director in the creation of Team Criteria
● Financial Performance
○ Support the management and tracking the Team’s budget
○ Ensure regular and timely expense reporting which conforms to the reporting standards established by the CFO

- Incumbents must be able to lift up to 25 pounds (50 with assistance), climb, stand, stoop and work outside in all weather conditions. Job requires travel and work on weekends, nights, holidays and on-call basis.
COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE

● A minimum of 5 years experience in nordic coaching
● Biathlon coaching experience and/or willingness to learn
● Excellent at building relationships, being collaborative, listening, and communication skills
● Proven leadership skills
● A mindset for thinking outside of the box and pushing the boundaries to achieve excellence
● USSS Level 200 coach and/or U.S. Biathlon Level 2 preferred
● Ability to accurately evaluate critical success factors for nordic athletes at the elite level
● Proven ability to prepare and execute a successful athletic plan for nordic athletes at the elite level
● Strong budgeting and expense management skills
● Capable computer skills, including email, Microsoft Word and Excel
● Strong team player with a demonstrated loyalty to the program and the organization
