Job Title: Sports Manager (Winter Games/Southeast Powerlifting)
Reports To: Vice President of Sports
FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Implements sports programming, trainings and competitions in order to achieve quality sports events by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Implement, direct and evaluate all aspects of the State Winter Games/Southeast Power lifting
  • Responsible for conducting the inventory and purchase of all awards medals/ribbons and equipment to include awards stands/boxes, flags, flag stands, PA Systems, backdrops and plants/flowers for all State Games and place order annually
  • Organizes, prints, packages and distributes State Games Delegates, SOGA Team and GOC credentials for State Summer Games (January) and State Fall Games (October).
  • Responsible for organizing the Signage, Opening Ceremony (including Grand Marshall and Emcee)/Dance, and Olympic Town for State Summer Games and Fall Games.
  • Responsible for the creating/sending out the press release for Winter Games
  • Oversees online registration process for State Summer Games with GMS7, increasing number of agencies each year per each games.
  • Responsible for the annual SOGA/SOI Sports/Census Report.
  • Plans and implements 3/4 GOC meetings per assigned games. (to be pre-approved by supervisor)
  • Manage all aspects of SO College Program, activating 1-2 programs per year with activating unified partners
  • Assists programs in setting up training schedules, recruiting coaches and securing training facilities as needed for Coaches Clinics.
  • Write submit and notate 5 grants per week (Wednesdays) and receive funding from 4.
  • Schedule and make 7 annual presentations with a Global Messenger by December 10th
  • Schedule and oversee all aspects of 8 Coaches Clinics to include GMS training in the State (to include 2 virtually).
  • Schedule and oversee all aspects of 4 Invitationals.
  • Assist Vice President of Sports and Training with all aspects of Coaches Education including the database maintenance, registration, payment collection and coach certification/re-certification in each sport offered in the State.
  • Assist Vice President of Sports and Training with all aspects of the database maintenance, registration and coach certification/re-certification in each sport offered in the State.
  • Implement and update the SOGA Sports Plan.
  • Conduct bi-annual Warehouse organization/clean-up and Pod Organization and purging.
  • Assist with the annual Sports calendar with dates and deadlines for all State Games & Sports Events.
  • Manage the wish list for the assigned state games to include the reviewing and dissemination of all completed games paperwork and assessment fee
  • Update all Sports rules in manuals and on website and coordinate State Games Rules committee for assigned state games
  • Exercises discretion and judgment in negotiating, procuring and evaluating all hotel contracts for the assigned State Games and provides a copy to the Chief Operating Officer for review before signing.
  • Responsible for the updating and distribution of generic State Games forms for assigned State Games
  • Preparing the Information Guide for assigned State Game including revisions, printing and placing on the Website
  • Input statistics monthly for assigned items
  • Responsible for developing and following budget plans for assigned events / projects / State Games.
  • Assist with processing State Games forms in 4 assigned Areas, 4, 13, 18
  • Prepare equipment and venue boxes for assigned State Game
  • Maintain personal budget and submit purchase orders and expense authorization forms when necessar
  • Provide support to the Area/Local GOC Training Chairpersons to assist with the implementation of coach’s clinics, etc. throughout the State if needed.
  • Responsible for all organizational E-Blasts (Usually 2 per Games)
  • Manage the athlete intern in Atlanta on Tuesday
  • Oversees and reviews Accounting U Drive monthly
  • Some travel as well as night and weekend commitments as needed
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education/Experience:
4-year College degree in sports related field. Special Olympics experience a plus and 4 to 5 years of direct and successful employee management.

Physical Demands:
The SOGA Team Member is frequently required to lift 50 pounds or more.
