Location: Remote with significant travel (national and international competitions, training camps, USOPC-related meetings)
Employment Type: Independent Contractor / Contract Position (at present time, monthly compensation depending on qualifications and experience, volume of work to vary month to month)

Position Summary
Powerlifting America seeks a highly experienced, strategic leader to serve as National Team Program Director on a contract basis. This pivotal role is responsible for the development, management, and execution of PA’s National Team Program. The Director will drive elite athlete performance, build a strong talent pipeline, ensure international competitiveness, and support USOPC alignment. This position is key to professionalizing PA operations and will oversee high-performance initiatives, provide coaching and support to national team athletes, coordinate team selections and international travel, and establish robust operations for sustained success in IPF and NAPF competitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • National Team Program Leadership: Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive National Team Program, including selection criteria, performance standards, funding and support structures, training camps, and developmental pathways across raw/classic and equipped divisions for all age groups (youth/junior to senior/master).
  • Athlete & Coach Development: Deliver direct coaching, programming, and performance support to national team athletes. Collaborate with personal coaches and integrate best practices in strength & conditioning, recovery, technique, and sport science.
  • International Team Management: Lead team preparations, nominations, logistics, and on-site management for IPF World Championships, NAPF regional events, and other international competitions. Ensure compliance with all technical, ethical, and administrative requirements.
  • Performance Optimization: Apply strength and conditioning principles, data tracking, and performance analysis to improve athlete results and international rankings.
  • Talent Identification & Pipeline: Develop and nurture a robust talent pipeline from grassroots to elite levels, including identifying promising athletes and partnering with clubs, universities, and strength programs.
  • Compliance & Governance: Maintain full adherence to PA bylaws, IPF rules, SafeSport, anti-doping (TUEs), and USOPC NGB standards. Support broader organizational professionalization efforts.
  • Collaboration & Representation: Partner with PA Executive Director, Technical Committee, Athlete Committee, Executive Committee, sponsors, and external stakeholders. Represent PA at national and international forums.
  • Additional Duties: Contribute to national events, sponsorship development, strategic planning, and other high-performance initiatives as needed. Extensive travel is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (4-year) in a relevant field such as Human Performance, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Current NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.
  • Minimum 4 years of college strength and conditioning experience within an athletic department.
  • Minimum 10 years of coaching experience in the IPF or NAPF international pathways (or equivalent high-level international powerlifting coaching).
  • Minimum 5 years of international coaching experience with Equipped athletes.
  • Minimum 20 years of overall experience in powerlifting (as an athlete, coach, administrator, or combination).
  • Ability to successfully complete a USOPC-compliant background check and required SafeSport training prior to commencing the contract.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or additional relevant certifications.
  • Proven success developing athletes who achieve medals or top international placements.
  • Experience directing or leading teams at major competitions.
  • Familiarity with USOPC/NGB operations, nonprofit governance, and powerlifting-specific rules/equipment standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to drug-free sport, athlete-centered development, and growing powerlifting in the U.S.
