SCOPE OF POSITION
 
Assisting in all aspects of communications and sport information, including website, digital, social media and magazine etc. Plays an important role in live event coverage for National Team and Membership competitions. In addition is responsible for helping brainstorm, develop and implement strategies to increase fan base on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube by developing tactics to increase participation.  Also collaborates with marketing and events to create relevant content and interactive media experiences throughout the USA Water Polo community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
  • Assists in maintaining the website including building, uploading and approving pages
  • Coordinates development of website in collaboration with content team
  • Works with different departments to develop new website content
  • Updates historical aspects of website (Hall of Fame, athlete bios, etc.)
  • Assists in public relations efforts helping facilitate the efforts of local, national and international media
  • Lead stat gathering and match recap efforts at National Team competitions
  • Assists in all social media efforts at various national competitions
  • Social media posting, development and monitoring
  • Writing assignments including feature articles and short form content
  • Prepares monthly statistics reports on website and social and digital media
  •  Other duties as requested
 
 


REQUIREMENTS
  • Creativity and passion for online communications including social media
  •  Previous experience in website editing and management, including HTML literacy
  •  Design skills, including webpage layout.
  • Strong skills in social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
  •  Excellent spoken and written English; other languages an asset
  •  Skills in Adobe design programs an advantage (particularly Photoshop etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Skilled writing ability including but not limited to: feature writing, press releases, public relation pitches, etc.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
 




QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising or other applicable areas of study 
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in athletic communications/public relations/social media marketing
  • Experience in use of online networking sites
  • Proficiency in Office software applications
  • Strong computer skills, HTML experience a bonus
  • Requires ability to engage in respectful and effective communication
  •  Strong knowledge of sports, water polo knowledge a bonus
  • Ability to work irregular hours as needed including weekends
  • Some travel required
  • Position is based in Southern California
  • Maturity, positive attitude, flexibility, high professional standards and ethics, ability to get along with a wide variety of people in a teamwork environment, ability to work with minimal instruction, prioritize, organize, while maintaining a good sense of humor.
