Job Summary:
The National Team Division works to support USA Swimming’s best athletes and coaches in their pursuit of Olympic and international success. The Program Director, National Junior Team will lead all aspects of the National Junior Team by developing and maintaining programs which serve as the pathway from elite level age group swimmers towards the Olympic Games.    
 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
National Junior Team Program Development: 
  • Refine conceptual and literal athlete “pathway” to the National Team, National Team Trips, and Olympic Games in accordance with the philosophies of the National Team Division.
  • Compose selection criteria for 18 and under international competitions, including the research and development of more accurate selection methods.
  • Work with USA Swimming constituents to continually communicate the selection procedures for National Junior Team programs and events. 
  • Provide practical services, accurate information, and transparent interpretation of data for the future success of the Olympic and National Team. 
  • Develop strong working relationships with National Junior Team coaches and athletes through service at competitions, camps, phone call consultations, and club visits.
  • Support the National Select Camps in conjunction with the Sport Development Division.
  • Identify athlete and support programs for developmental swimmers 18 and under and to coaches who prepare athletes for selection to and performance in USA Swimming National Junior Teams, training camps, and competitions.
  • Consult with experienced coaches and professionals on the structure and goals of the program.
  • Act as a liaison between the coaches of our best 18 and under athletes and USA Swimming’s high-performance team and to U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee Sport Practitioners.
  • Conduct regular club program visits to home programs of coaches who have swimmers in the National Junior Team Program.
  • Conduct quad reviews of the National Junior Team Program to evaluate areas of success and areas of improvement moving towards the upcoming Olympic Games. 
  • Annual management, data collection, communication, and publicity of the 18 and under World 100 List, or its equivalent.
 
Competition Support:
  • Responsible for the operational planning of National Junior Team events.
  • Serve as the technical leader at National Junior Team international competitions. 
  • Provide direction and leadership to domestic and out of country activities for the National Junior Team such as training camps, competitions, etc.
  • Travel to regional, pro series, national, and international competitions as needed to perform various responsibilities. 
 
National Team Division Support:
  • Serve as the staff lead for USA Swimming’s Senior Development Committee, in conjunction with USA Swimming’s Sport Development Division.
  • Act as a staff liaison with USA Swimming’s Sport Development Division to ensure the philosophy is consistent with the National Junior Team. 
  • Maintain the National Junior Team budget. 
 
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, kinesiology, related field, or equivalent
  • Minimum seven years’ experience working in the swimming community as a coach or administrator
  • Expertise in the sport of swimming required
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills preferred
  • Ability to travel 25% of the year
  • Willing to relocate to Colorado Springs, CO
 
Salary & Benefits:
  • Salary range for this position is $75,000 - $82,000 / year
