GITANO NYC is an elevated Modern Mexican Restaurant, Mezcal Bar and Lounge, located on the waterfront at Pier 17, The Seaport, downtown NYC. GITANO, inspired by the lush tropical jungle and the Spanish colonial towns of the Yucatán, first opened in Tulum in 2013. and is famed for its elegant, bohemian design and glamorous dinner and dancing. GITANO NYC is set in a spectacular 14,000 square foot property, with 30-foot ceilings and giant hydraulic glass doors, which open up onto the East River, with sweeping views of the Brooklyn Bridge, creating a unique year-round indoor/outdoor dining experience. With a seated capacity of 250-300, GITANO also hosts large parties and buyouts up to 750. GRUPO GITANO is a global hospitality and lifestyle brand with locations in NYC, Tulum, and Dubai, including restaurants, beach clubs, and the first CASA GITANO beach hotel in Tulum.
About the Role
Seaport Entertainment and Gitano are looking for an Assistant General Manager! Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager directs, implements, and maintains a service and management philosophy, which serves as a guide to respective staff and takes the necessary steps to achieve stated objectives in sales, cost environment, employee retention, cleanliness, and sanitation. The AGM is responsible for managing the daily operations of our restaurant, including the selection, development, and performance management of employees.
What You Will Do
Support the General Manager in running the daily operations of the restaurant which include but are not limited to the following tasks:
Recruit, lead, motivate, train and develop restaurant staff, including servers, server assistants, managers, bartenders, and hosts. Be proactive with performance management and disciplinary actions as needed.
Prepare staff work schedules and assign specific duties.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by handling guest interactions with care and attention.
Ensure all financial and personnel/payroll related administrative duties are completed accurately, on time and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Contribute to overall profitability through inventory control, labor control and overall cost management
Enforce restaurant cleanliness and safety standards, and adhere to health and safety regulations.
Address customer complaints and concerns promptly and effectively.
Assist with marketing and promotional strategies to increase customer traffic.
Perform all other tasks as duties as assigned and/or per business need.
About You
A minimum of five years’ experience in a high-end, high volume restaurant.
Strong experience in upholding guest service standards
Organization and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks such as food, beverage and labor cost while maintaining required standards of operation in daily restaurant activities.
Proficient in the following dimensions of restaurant functions: food planning and preparation, purchasing, sanitation, security, company policies and procedures, personnel management, recordkeeping, and preparation of reports
Strong analytical capabilities including budgetary and financial acumen.
POS and computer literate with the ability to learn and adapt to using all programs.
Ability to communicate effectively and eloquently, both verbal and written.
Professional demeanor, polished appearance with the ability to exceed guest's expectations.
Ability to work in an ever-changing environment.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Strong work ethic and customer-focused approach
Ability to work a flexible schedule inclusive of varying shifts such as days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to stand for prolong periods of time.
Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the property. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
Climbing steps regularly.
Compensation: $85k – 100k
