ABOUT PORTLAND FIRE: 
Professional women’s basketball is returning to Rose City. On September 18, 2024, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) awarded Portland its 15th franchise, bringing the league back to the city for the first time in over two decades. Owned and operated by the Bhathal family through RAJ Sports, the team has just made its official debut in 2026 at the Moda Center. Portland is cementing itself as the epicenter of women’s sports, powered by a passionate fan base and a rich basketball culture. At Portland Fire, we’re building more than a team, we’re creating a modern, inclusive, and community-driven organization from the ground up. WHAT YOU'LL BE UP TO:
  • Represent the Fire via performances at all home games and various community and internal events
  • Regularly pitch new and innovative ideas for in-game skits in collaboration with Game Experience.
  • Responsible for booking and scheduling all non-game day related events 
  • Work with the Director of Game Experience on creating and actively pursuing a goal-oriented revenue stream for the entertainment program.
  • Adhere to and protect the performer brand within the guidelines of the organization.
  • Purchase, clean, and maintain all performer assets including costumes, outfits, props, vehicle, and other items.  
  • Schedule and oversee rehearsals, workouts, practice sessions, and any other extra-curricular activities pertaining to the entertainment program. 
  • Maintain the budget for the entertainment program in collaboration in collaboration with the Director of Game Experience
  • Attend conferences, as well as other workshops and conventions that will aid in creation of new materials, gather insight on new innovations and opportunities, and/or increase productivity and skills of position. 
  • Film & edit video content for on-line and in-arena use.

Schedule: Portland Fire game days and select promotional or community events (evenings, weekends, and holidays as required)

WHAT IT TAKES:
  • At least 3 years of live performance experience as a mascot, character, hype crew member, etc. required
  • Availability to attend live in-person auditions in late June
  • High physical performance-related skills:
    • Dancing & Learning choreography
    • Tumbling, flips, and other acrobatics
    • Dunking off a trampoline
    • Running, Jumping, Balancing, and a High Level of Endurance
    • Throwing T-Shirts and other objects
    • Comfortable with heights
    • Other performance skills to enhance the character (Sign Language, Juggling,   Improvisation) 
  • Ability to excite, motivate, and entertain a crowd – having a great sense of humor is a must.
  • Ability to relate and respond to various personalities and actions and an excellent ability to establish rapport with others and ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Must exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Must be very organized and display excellent communication skills.
  • Must possess an extraordinary level of creativity, energy, and spontaneity, and have the passion to constantly build and present new and creative ideas. 
  • Must be of good moral character and always represent the organization in a professional and appropriate manner, inside and outside the suit.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure, in addition to strong organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
