Professional women’s basketball is returning to Rip City. On September 18, 2024, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) awarded Portland its 15th franchise, bringing the league back to the city for the first time in over two decades. Owned and operated by the Bhathal family through RAJ Sports, the team will make its official debut in 2026 at the Moda Center. THE ROLE:
As the Videographer for the Portland Fire, you will be responsible for creating compelling visual content that showcases the team and brand across various platforms. From ideation to delivery, you will lead the production process, bringing complex ideas to life through captivating storytelling. Your role will require a keen visual eye, technical expertise, and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines. You will collaborate with internal teams to craft unique storytelling experiences across the spectrum of original, branded, short and long-form content.
WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO:
• Establish and maintain a high-level video quality that differentiates the Fire’s brand
• Ideate, shoot, post-produce, and deliver video content for the Portland Fire team and brand, from concept development to final delivery.
• Utilize a variety of storytelling techniques and skills to create engaging visual narratives that resonate with audiences.
• Work closely with internal constituents to understand project requirements and objectives and develop creative solutions that meet or exceed expectations.
• Manage video productions and crews, including coordinating logistics, directing shoots, and ensuring a smooth production process from start to finish.
• Travel and capture home/road game and practice action
• Conduct interviews with athletes, document subjects, and capture behind-the-scenes moments to tell authentic and compelling stories.
• Demonstrate technical expertise in cameras, lighting, and audio equipment, ensuring high-quality production values in all video content.
• Edit and post-produce video content using industry-standard software, applying creative editing techniques to enhance storytelling and visual impact.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate video content into broader marketing initiatives and campaigns, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and messaging.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in video production and storytelling, and apply relevant insights to enhance our creative processes.
WHAT IT TAKES:
• Bachelor's degree in film, video production, digital media, or related fields preferred. Equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree acceptable.
• 4-5 years of experience in video production, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in producing, shooting, and editing content across multiple platforms and formats.
• In-house sports experience preferred.
• Proven experience managing video productions and crews, including scheduling, directing, and coordinating logistics as well as post production management of files, file storage and file delivery.
• Excellent storytelling abilities, with the ability to translate stories into treatments.
• Ability to ingest feedback from multiple touchpoints and implement into revised output quickly.
• Ability to provide feedback on internal and external stakeholders video production work in order to ensure that deliverables are on brand, answer the brief, and are of industry standard quality.
• Technical expertise in camera systems, lighting, and audio equipment, with proficiency in post-production and editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, self-start, manage timelines, and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
• Experience working in a team environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
• Ability to travel with team to away matches.
• Passion for sports and a deep understanding of sports culture and fan engagement.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, and team members.
