Professional women’s basketball is returning to Rip City. On September 18, 2024, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) awarded Portland its 15th franchise, bringing the league back to the city for the first time in over two decades. Owned and operated by the Bhathal family through RAJ Sports, the team will make its official debut in 2026 at the Moda Center. Portland is cementing itself as the epicenter of women’s sports, powered by a passionate fan base and a rich basketball culture. THE ROLE:
The In-Arena DJ is the architect of the venue’s sonic atmosphere, responsible for selecting, mixing, and executing all music and audio elements that define the game experience. This role collaborates directly with the Game Experience team to ensure every musical element is timely, appropriate, and perfectly aligned with organizational standards and WNBA guidelines. The ideal candidate possesses high-level technical proficiency and the artistic intuition to curate musical programming that resonates deeply with the city of Portland, the Fire brand, the WNBA, and its diverse fanbase.
WHAT YOU'LL BE UP TO:
- Select, prepare, and perform music from doors open through the conclusion of the game
- Enhance key moments such as player introductions, fan engagement moments, and key game situations with strategic musical selections
- Execute music, sound effects, and specialized audio elements in accordance with the script and Producer’s cues
- Coordinate with the Game Experience show caller, in-arena emcee, PA Announcer, and broader production staff to ensure accurate timing and alignment
- Ensure all music content is clean and complies with WNBA and Portland Fire guidelines
- Adjust musical programming in real-time to accommodate game flow, sudden timing shift, or operational needs
- Maintain and operate professional DJ and audio equipment with the highest level of care and safety
- Participate in rehearsals, pre-game meetings, and training sessions as required
Schedule: Portland Fire game days and select promotional or community events (evenings, weekends, and holidays as required)
WHAT IT TAKES:
- Prior experience as a DJ in live events, sports, and/or entertainment environments
- Strong musical judgement with a sophisticated understanding of audience engagement
- Technical proficiency with professional DJ software and hardware
- Ability to perform with precision and accuracy under the demands of live-event conditions
- Professional demeanor characterized by reliability and punctuality
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays during the season
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods
- Ability to lift, transport, and set up audio equipment as needed
