ABOUT PORTLAND FIRE:  
Professional women’s basketball is returning to Rip City. On September 18, 2024, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) awarded Portland its 15th franchise, bringing the league back to the city for the first time in over two decades. Owned and operated by the Bhathal family through RAJ Sports, the team will make its official debut in 2026 at the Moda Center. Portland is cementing itself as the epicenter of women’s sports, powered by a passionate fan base and a rich basketball culture. THE ROLE:
As Social Media Director, you will build and lead social strategy and drive revenue opportunity. You will be responsible for managing the social media team, while leading all social strategy to build an engaged following. This is the perfect role for a digital strategist who loves to work at the intersection of culture, community, and sport.

WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO:  
  • Drive social media strategy for the Portland Fire  
  • Build and manage cross-platform content calendar to support key milestones, campaigns, tentpole events, and brand moments.  
  • Generate compelling content (written, visual, and video) that drives engagement and builds community.  
  • Collaborate with internal teams, players, and external agencies to develop creative, culturally relevant and monetizable content.  
  • Travel with the team as needed to capture in-the-moment, behind-the scenes, and game-day content.  
  • Foster meaningful, authentic fan connections through community management and direct engagement.  
  • Identify emerging trends, opportunities, and cultural moments for engagement.  
  • Analyze and deliver regular reporting on the performance metrics including channel growth, campaign impact, and engagement metrics.  
  • Collaborate with influencers, athletes, media and local community leaders to expand reach and engagement.  
  • Maintain a consistent tone, style, and voice that aligns with the WNBA Portland brand.  
 
WHAT IT TAKES:  
  • 8+ years in digital media with experience leading social media strategy 
  • Demonstrated experience capturing and producing live content within sports or entertainment. 
  • Exceptional storytelling skills with proven ability to create engaging content in visual and written mediums.  
  • Comprehensive understanding of social media platforms and their respective best practices.  
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.  
  • Ability to travel and work on nights and weekends as the team’s schedule dictates.  
  • Comfortable delivering, receiving and implementing creative feedback.  
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Proficiency in content creation tools and software.  
  • Experience in social media tools and analytics platforms.  
  • Passion for WNBA, basketball culture, and women’s sports.
