Founded in 2012, Portland Thorns FC have set the standard for fan support and on-field success in women’s soccer since its inaugural 2013 season. One of the world’s most supported women’s soccer clubs in the world, Portland has led the league in attendance for nine seasons and set a new club home-opener record in 2026 with 21,321 fans attending the match vs Seattle Reign FC at Providence Park. Thorns FC have won the NWSL Championship a league-record three times (2013, 2017, 2022) and finished as runners-up in 2018. The club has made the postseason a league-high nine times and has won the NWSL Shield in 2016 and 2021.

THE ROLE: 
The Marketing Manager role is a key position within our Marketing organization, reporting to our Director of Marketing. This individual will be responsible for assisting in the development and execution of Thorns FC marketing initiatives and strategies with a focus on digital ads, email, and our website. This person utilizes best practices like retargeting, A/B testing and optimization to drive business results. This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with a passion for digital marketing, sports, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO: 
Paid Media (approx. 50%) 
  • Lead the media buying planning, development and execution of targeted paid media campaigns (traditional and digital) to drive ticket sales, merchandise and purchase ROI.  
  • Collaborate with ticketing and merchandise to create comprehensive paid media strategies that are aligned with the business’ goals and objectives 
  • Ability to implement audience targeting strategies, and set up tracking and conversion pixels to measure campaign performance  
  • Build and manage campaigns that drive ticket sales, engagement, and brand awareness. 
  • Develop creative briefs and collaborate with the creative team to produce high-performing assets. 
  • Optimize campaign performance in real time to maximize ROI. 
  • Track, analyze, and report on campaign performance and audience insights. 
  • Align paid campaigns with broader marketing efforts across email, web, and organic social. 

Website Management (approx. 35%) 
  • Maintain and update the organization's website on a daily basis, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and relevance of content.  
  • Coordinate and execute marketing and content campaigns on the website, promoting events, merchandise, and other initiatives to drive engagement and revenue.  
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including marketing, communications, and digital media, to align website content with broader organizational goals and initiatives.  
  • Provide insight and ideas for longer-term digital development projects, contributing to the enhancement of the website's functionality, design, and user experience.  
  • Work with external constituents who have a presence on the website, including sponsors, partners, and affiliates, to ensure their needs and objectives are met.  
  • Monitor website performance and analytics, identifying opportunities for optimization and improvement to enhance user engagement and conversion rates.  
  • Support the creation and execution of original content, including graphics, videos, and written posts, to drive engagement and build brand awareness. 

Strategic Marketing Support (approx. 15%) 
  • Review all partner assets and campaigns for quality, consistency, and brand alignment. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of marketing strategies and campaigns to promote the Thorns, its players, ticket sales, initiatives, and events. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and activities to inform marketing strategies. 
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed to support departmental and organizational objectives. 

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A THORN: 
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing with proven success in Meta ad platforms. 
  • Familiarity with multivariate testing and optimization techniques for paid media campaigns.  
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.  
  • Solid understanding of sports fans and sports consumer behavior, with an applicable knowledge and interest in the growth of the sport.
