Founded in 2012, Portland Thorns FC have set the standard for fan support and on-field success in women’s soccer since its inaugural 2013 season. One of the world’s most supported women’s soccer clubs, Portland has led the league in attendance for eight seasons and set a new club playoff attendance record last year with 25,218 fans supporting Thorns FC in the 2023 semifinal match at Providence Park.  Thorns FC have won the NWSL Championship a league-record three times (2013, 2017, 2022) and finished as runners-up in 2018. The club has made the postseason a league-high nine times and has won the NWSL Shield in 2016 and 2021.

THE ROLE:
As a member of the Portland Thorns Ticket Sales Team, the Group Sales Manager is responsible in increasing Group ticket sales through creating, and developing effective Group sales campaigns while building, maintaining, and strengthening new as well as current Group leader relationships.
 
WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO: 
  •  Develop and execute group sales strategies to achieve and exceed revenue targets for Group ticket sales.
  • Maintain and be able to produce accurate reports regarding Group ticket sales and appointments      associated in building Group sales revenue. 
  • Provide problem solving sales and service techniques to assist with customer inquiries and concerns including but not limited to Group ticket inventories.
  • Execute effective sales calls and presentations promoting the purchase of available Group ticket products to meet established sales objectives and goals.
  • Direct sales of all Group ticket products to wide range of clientele, including but not limited to, corporate executives, business professionals, youth & charitable organizations, soccer fans and non-soccer fans. 
  •  Develop and maintain a database of leads, contacts, and prospects for ongoing communication and relationship management.
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices to continually enhance the group sales strategy and offerings.
  • Attend networking events, industry functions, and community gatherings to promote group ticket offerings.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to create targeted campaigns and promotional materials to  attract group buyers.
  • Collaborate with the ticket sales team to align group sales strategies with broader ticketing initiatives.
  • Work closely with the ticket operations team to ensure accurate seating assignments and delivery of group tickets.
  •  Coordinate and oversee the group sales process from inquiry to purchase, ticket allocation, and payment processing.
  • Work closely with Director of Ticket Sales & Service and the Ticket Operations department to ensure Group inventory integrity while providing high levels of service for all Group purchasers. 
  • Participate in events, promotions, client entertainment and other activities as required. 
  • Work scheduled shifts during Portland Thorns home games and other required team and/or Providence Park events, activities or functions as required. 
  •  Represent the Portland Thorns and Providence Park in a professional, and ethical manner.
 
 
WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A THORN:
  • Bachelors Degree or experience in lieu of a degree.
  •  Four (4) years’ experience in sports and/or entertainment industry preferred.
  • Knowledge and efficiency in ticket systems functions and database management. 
  • Seat Geek ticketing & CRM system experience preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook computer skills.
  • Excellent relationship building and people skills with the ability to interact effectively and professional, diplomatic and in a mature manner internally and externally. 
  • An aggressive solicitor of business with drive and initiative to succeed. 
  • Polished presentation skills, with an ability to think and react to situations confidently. 
  •  Assertive, persistent, results oriented. 
  • Understands the importance of working as a team and adhere to department guidelines. 
  • Ability to work weekends, nights, and holidays as dictated by events.
  • Ability to build relationships through strong outbound call prospecting daily is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
