Position Summary:

The Game Experience & Community Outreach Manager is responsible for the overall game presentation and community relations/outreach for the G League team, the Birmingham Squadron. During the basketball season, this includes developing and executing the gameday script, booking talent, managing game presentation staff and serving as the primary show caller. Year round, it includes organizing positive events and experiences that support Birmingham-area organizations, schools and nonprofits. The role requires a high basketball IQ, flawless attention to detail, creativity and excellent communication.

This is a full-time position reporting to the General Manager, Business Operations and is based in Birmingham, Alabama.

What you will be doing:

  • Learn the fundamentals of the New Orleans Pelicans’ game experience and apply to the Birmingham Squadron game day experience
  • Create game day timelines and scripts to ensure the game presentation is executed accurately and smoothly
  • Book entertainment, performers, and live acts for National Anthem, halftime performances and other game day activations
  • Develop highly engaging in-game promotions and videoboard content
  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise seasonal/hourly gameday staff such as PA announcer, Technical Director, Audio Operator, Mascot, Emcee, and Hype Team
  • Work in conjunction with third-party vendors, such as broadcast or arena personnel, to ensure game experience plans are communicated accurately and clearly
  • Work with marketing manager to ensure gameday graphics and signage are executed properly
  • Review sponsor contracts that include in-game or community elements and provide feedback/approval
  • Develop beneficial, strategic relationships with non-profit organizations, civic groups and school administration in order to position the organization as a vested community partner
  • Manage all external donation requests
  • Schedule both mascot and Squadron player appearances throughout the year
  • Execute school visits, charitable drives or other socially responsible events
  • Work with all departments to ensure our community efforts not only meet the needs of the community but also creates shared value within business operations
  • Learn and adhere to all NBA G League game presentation guidelines and requirements

 

 

What you’ll bring: 

  • 2-4 years of work experience from within the sports or entertainment industry; ideally in game experience, game or event production, or event / live entertainment management.
  • Bachelor's Degree in sport management, business, marketing or a related field of study
  • Must possess strong understanding of basketball fundamentals; knowledge or experience of game/show calling is preferred 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Birmingham and surrounding communities is preferred
  •  Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • Can-do attitude; starts from a place of “yes” and remains solution oriented
  • A great communicator and team player who wants everyone to succeed
  • Must be able to walk, sit and stand while directing events
  • Must be able to work with technology and on a computer for long and potentially extended periods
  • Must be able to work extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
