Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) is one of the largest integrated sports and entertainment companies in the country with one of the most diverse partnership groups in all of sports. MSE owns and operates seven major and minor sports teams: 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals, NBA’s Washington Wizards, WNBA’s 2019 Championship Washington Mystics, NBA G League’s Capital City Go-Go, 2021 & 2020 NBA 2K League Champion Wizards District Gaming and Caps Gaming, an esports sub-brand of the Capitals. Additionally, it holds a significant investment in a seventh professional team, Team Liquid, an endemic esports team owned and operated by aXiomatic, in which MSE is an investor.

In September 2022, MSE acquired the regional sports network, then-called NBC Sports Washington and newly rebranded as Monumental Sports Network. Monumental Sports Network now holds the exclusive local television media rights to Capitals’, Wizards’, and Mystics’ games. The network is both a linear channel and a digital operation. Prior to acquiring the linear platform, the digital platform was launched by MSE in 2016, as the first-of-its-kind regional sports network for digital, mobile, and streaming platforms. Those linear and digital platforms are now combined and join Caps Radio, Wizards Radio, MSE Outdoor and Monumental Productions for a full suite of six media enterprises.

In addition to Capital One Arena – a venue which hosts 3M+ visitors across over 250 events annually, MSE also manages MedStar Capitals Iceplex (training facility for the Capitals), MedStar Health Performance Center (training facility for the Wizards, Mystics, and Go-Go) and EagleBank Arena (a 12,000+ live event venue on George Mason University’s campus).

In July 2020, MSE partnered with William Hill (subsequently acquired by Caesars Entertainment) to open the first ever in-arena sportsbook in North America, now called Caesars Sportsbook. The space now also boasts a destination culinary experience, Guy Fieri’s DC Kitchen + Bar.

MSE opened “District E powered by Ticketmaster” in the spring of 2023, a flagship esports and entertainment venue. This 14,000-square-foot live-event theater offers a 365-day-a-year series of immersive experiences in esports, music, culinary excellence, event programming, and community events.

Position Overview: The Manager, Member Events is responsible for the planning and management of Member Events and Experiences for the WNBA Washington Mystics. Events include Member-Exclusive events, trips, meet-ups, and key sales events. In addition, this role will service VIP clients seated in M-Class and Courtside. This role is an integral member of the Ticket Sales & Service Team, helping to ensure strong Member Experiences as well as continue to build our business from Member-directed sales.

  • Event management for Member Events.
  • Club 52 Events including Wine & Basketball, Member Day at the Mystics, and Mystics Family Picnic.
  • Member Perk Events including the monthly Coffee with Coach and post-game Member Fan Experiences.
  • Member Meet-Ups, which are informal social gatherings (ex. Away Game Watch Parties at local bar partner locations) held throughout the year (approx. 6-8 annually).
  • Club 52 Trips, including NYC Road Trip, annual Weekend With the Mystics away game trip, annual All-Star Game meet-ups, and possible Finals away game attendance.
  • President’s Circle private events, including dinners and networking events (2 per year).
  • Sales Prospecting events, targeting specific new business segments.
  • Event planning from start to finish – develop event budgets, event concepts, marketing/outreach plans, and alignment to business goals/objectives.
  • Secure event venues and maintain venue relationship. Handle venue logistics, including set-up, tear-down, operations.
  • Generate creative ideas for the event itself to ensure Member participation/engagement; plan itineraries to include activities, transportation, meals, etc.
  • Oversee the event budget.
  • Partner with and manage a set of vendors delivering elements of the event.
  • Develop and implement the event marketing plan, including Save The Dates, Invitations, RSVPs, event Know Before You Go, Thank Yous, etc.
  • Provide weekly status update reports, project budget reconciliation, post-event recaps (internal and external), and overall dashboards on progress to goals.
  • Build positive relationships through active communication, including seat visits, phone calls, emails, and other relevant communication channels.
  • Sell upgrades, add-ons, and referrals.
  • Meet and exceed retention and associated revenue goals with assigned account base.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve a wide variety of issues related to memberships.
  • Maintain frequent communication with clients, providing detailed knowledge of all products and services. Develop a measurable touchpoint program within the current CRM system, and metrics to consistently monitor progress.
  • Participate in annual projects related to seat relocation, renewals, and playoffs.
  • Improve measurable year-over-year fan satisfaction.
  • Partner with the Manager, Fan Experience to plan revenue-generating all-fan pre-game and post-game events (complete 1-2 annually).
  • Work across our company, partnering with team members in Marketing, Game Presentation, Venue Operations, Player Relations, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of event management experience and 1 year of client service experience is preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and a passion for the little things.
  • Ability to multi-task and balance numerous business relationships in a professional manner.
  • Advanced knowledge of Salesforce or equivalent Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool.
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Problem solver, detail driven, and a phenomenal teammate.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with clients and peers at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to efficiently lead and prioritize multiple projects at once.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
