THE ROLE   

This role is part of the Corporate Technology Operations & Security division. The Sr. Platform Engineer will partner with colleagues to support network, server, storage, cloud, data and application uptime and availability initiatives company wide.  In this role, the candidate is expected to have a solid grasp of DevOps, and be able to support our SDLC through partnership with developers and Site Reliability Engineers (SRE).  

Our portfolio of IT includes business technology, venue technology, data services, mobile technology, e-commerce, payment processing, and point of sale (POS) systems.  To support these, the individual in this role will need to be adept at supporting both physical and virtual environments.  

The scope of our infrastructure is vast; we currently operate throughout North America, the UK and Europe, but are forever growing into new regions.  These locations range from corporate offices to medium-sized sports arenas and attractions to very large stadiums. To be successful, the role requires an individual that can gain an in depth understanding of complex holistic solutions, spanning disparate platforms and applications, and then overlay industry leading infrastructure operations standards.  

The Sr. Platform Engineer reports to the Cloud Platform Lead, and has shared responsibility for meeting the corporate objectives for platforms, applications, and information security practices with other team members.  The individual in this role will partner and be proactive to meet the operational, regulatory and compliance policies required to maintain a “Good Standing” with our auditors, and just as importantly meet the expectations of the clients we serve. This role will be expected to measure and show that we meet our internal Operating Level Agreements (OLAs) and that our solution partners meet their Service Level Agreements (SLAs), all the while maintaining a strong position on operational security and compliance.

Although already cloud based in many operational settings, Legends has a strong appetite to further embrace external services and solutions. Therefore, in addition to strong traditional on-premise physical and virtual platform skills, Legends sees this role as hands-on to provide infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS), and software-as-a-service (SaaS) support services. Our goal is to ensure solutions are implemented and maintained to maximize platform stability and availability.

The candidate must also cooperate with other team members to help make strategic and/or tactical compliance decisions on administrative and operational issues affecting the organization.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implement and maintain Platform server, storage, data protection and network in on-premise physical, virtual and/or cloud-based environments in support of business and IT applications
  • Serve as a Platform Subject Matter Expert for IT infrastructure technologies such as server system, storage system, data backup system, email security system, cloud infrastructure, and other technological systems as assigned. Act as a point of escalation, provide mentorship, and technical direction to team-members and evangelize best practices and methodologies
  • Understand and partner with clients and the Legends venues to ensure all system integration opportunities and enhancements are identified and can be capitalized upon
  • Be adept in the configuration of new and existing applications on multiple platforms
  • Facilitate collaboration, open communication, and reach across non-IT functional borders
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems, application software, and system management tools
  • Document newly built environments and setup monitoring, anti-virus, and data backups
  • Maintain Active Directory (AD) Domains, AD OU Structure, Group Policies, certificates
  • Partner with vendors on creating firewall rules to enable business application access
  • Troubleshoot application connectivity issues leveraging system, network, and firewall logs
  • Perform M&A IT integrations such as Active Directory and email
  • Engage and influence stakeholders, internal partners, and peers to engineer projects, identify new products and solutions, and research solutions for existing systems
  • Contribute to the technology strategy by identifying, assessing, and recommending external trends in technology, technology solutions and methodologies
  • Develop, design, test, and document improvement solutions and processes aimed to improve system’s efficiency, reliability, scalability, and cost effectiveness
  • Evaluate and remediate security vulnerabilities and application updates impacting Legends systems
  • Ensure support and maintenance contracts are in place and at the appropriate level to meet established system RTO and RPO
  • Manage change within the organization through policy and procedures such that changes are applied in a controlled and systematic manner
  • Provide 24x7 priority on-call support assessment and resolution of escalated production issues, further escalating to other internal or external parties when the issue cannot be resolved independently
  • Perform root-cause analysis of complex issues ranging through platform hardware, operating system, application, network, and information security systems while working closely with stakeholders to quickly arrive at inventive and long-term solutions
  • Partner with Architecture and Engineering teams to be aware of initiatives impacting supported environments
  • Offer technical expertise to IT peers and juniors alike, sharing knowledge at all times
  • Know and comply with applicable regulatory compliance standards
  • Participate in PCI, data privacy and other audits
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty above at the highest levels. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Highly effective spoken, written and presentation communication skills
  • Engineering of automation and orchestration platforms for Windows and Linux environments using infrastructure as code and configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform DSL, DSC)
  • Proficient with implementing CI/CD best practices and patterns for delivering a solution comprised of software and infrastructure
  • Strong scripting knowledge and experience using languages inc. PowerShell and Python
  • Experience partnering with architectural, database, development, report and analytics teams
  • Able to assess a situation and its impact, and accurately convey this information to technical and non-technical personnel, including senior management and then act appropriately
  • Demonstrates experience in managing disparate Platform systems in a truly enterprise environment including Windows and *NIX in a heterogeneous infrastructure; spanning physical, virtual and cloud platforms/services
  • Demonstrates experience in managing disparate storage and backup platforms in a truly enterprise environment including NetApp and Rubrik in a heterogeneous infrastructure
  • Willingness to work in a rapidly changing, diverse environment, able to meet business needs and objectives on short notice
  • Prepared to flex to accommodate the schedule of a global organization with a specialty in sports and entertainment venues
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to use tools such as MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Visio

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, systems and business initiatives
  • Weekend and Holiday: Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as determined necessary or desirable to meet Legends business needs
  • Will be required to carry a smart phone and expected to respond to urgent calls in a timely manner. This may require remote or occasional on-site support
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • BS/BA with minimum 8 years of experience in increasingly senior roles supporting Platforms in on-premise and cloud environments within enterprise IT
  • 6+ years engineering and administration of Linux or other Unix variants (Ubuntu, RedHat, etc) and Microsoft operating systems
  • 6+ years progressive experience of virtual environments; VMWare, MS Hyper-V, OpenStack
  • 3+ years experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
  • 6+ years of experience owning resourcing, availability and system health management, incidents handling and service requests, having progressively moved through the various tiers of support within a large organization
  • 6+ years of hands-on operational experience with Microsoft Azure services
  • 6+ years of professional technology experience within the hospitality or a related industry
  • 6+ years progressive experience with common transport and authentication protocols
  • 3+ years of POS, payments, event support and retail sales experience preferred, but not required
  • A+, Net+ and Security + certifications strongly desired, Microsoft MCSE or MCSA and/or Cisco CCNA preferred
  • ITIL and other service management knowledge and certifications preferred
