Nature of Work:

The Athletic Training Intern position is an opportunity for graduates, or soon to be graduates (in their final year of undergrad), to obtain experience from multiple professionals in the evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, injury prevention, and strength training of professional athletes and youth academy players. This position must be occupied by a student or recent graduate in a Certified Athletic Training Program. 

Examples of work performed:

• Support the management of the healthcare of Rapids 2 team and academy players including, but not limited to: first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, rehabilitation, and development of recovery and prevention programs

• Assist in maintaining a complete and up-to-date roster of player health and participation records in the League-provided electronic medical record (EMR) system

• Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory supplies and clinical equipment

• Keep athletic training room and clinic area safe, clean, and organized

• Help the Club Medical Staff regarding players’ health and safety

• Assist with on-field hydration protocols

 • Assist Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Trainers with relevant research articles and implementation
 • Help create individualized athlete profiles and/or programs for players
 • Assist with any planning of youth development training, treatment, rehabilitation, nutrition, and/or strength (Rapids Academy)

• Assist with the implementation of COVID protocols

• Comply with all MLS and MLS Next Pro medical policies and protocols

• Comply with HIPAA and maintain strict confidence as it pertains to club matters, including but not limited player health information

• Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer, Assistant Athletic Trainers, Head of Performance, and/or Strength and Conditioning Coach

Qualifications

 Our ideal candidate will have the following: 
 • First Aid/CPR certification preferred
 • Individual must demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and exhibit proper ethical behavior
 • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
 • Must possess the ability to adapt to unpredictable circumstances and handle a highly demanding work environment
 • Minimum of a B.S. in Athletic Training (may be in their final year/semester). 
 • Previous experience with a collegiate or professional soccer team is highly recommended.
 • Must be an effective communicator orally and written.
 • The ability to speak other languages is highly sought after (specifically Spanish, Portuguese, French).
 • This individual must know how to work with Microsoft Office’s most current operating system.
 • This position functions primarily at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and the surrounding practice fields in Commerce City, Colorado. This individual will be required to occasionally drive to off-site meetings and other functions. Some out of town travel may be required.
 • Given the nature of this job, the individual must be able to work during the evenings and weekends when needed. 

Compensation

  • Base hourly range of $18.29 an hour
