Job Summary

The Lead, Producer Editor is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end video production process for the Detroit Red Wings, delivering premium content that aligns with brand standards and organizational goals. Reporting to the Director, Video Content Production, this role leads the planning, coordination, and execution of all phases of video production. From pre-production strategy and on-site direction to post-production editing and final delivery. This position is highly collaborative, working closely with directors, producers, and cross-functional creative teams to develop engaging, high-quality content across multiple platforms, including broadcast, digital, in-venue, and social media. The Lead, Producer Editor will also mentor junior producer editors, uphold editorial standards, and contribute creative direction to ensure innovative and compelling storytelling that resonates with fans. The ideal candidate brings expertise in sports video production, a strong creative vision, and the technical proficiency to lead a fast-paced, high output environment. Non-traditional work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as occasional travel, are required.

Key Responsibilities

Video Production Leadership

  • Oversee the full video content production process from concept development, pre-production planning, on-site direction, editing, and final delivery.
  • Lead and execute complex productions, including promotional campaigns, branded videos, documentaries, in-game features, and short form content.
  • Mentor and guide junior producer editors, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to creative and technical standards.

Pre-Production & Planning

  • Collaborate with the Manager, Video Content Production and creative leads to develop production strategies, shot lists, storyboards, and visual treatments.
  • Build and manage weekly production schedules, coordinating personnel, equipment, and timelines to meet tight deadlines.
  • Partner with marketing, communications, and game presentation teams to ensure alignment with brand objectives and fan engagement strategies.

Production Execution

  • Direct and capture high-quality video content at practices, games, media days, and team-related events.
  • Collaborate with other departments and corporate partners to deliver content that elevates the fan experience and meets strategic goals.

Post-Production Oversight

  • Lead all facets of post-production, including color correction, sound design, audio mixing, motion graphics integration, and final mastering.
  • Review and approve final edits, ensuring all deliverables meet brand, technical, and quality standards.
  • Maintain an efficient editorial workflow by developing and enforcing consistent equipment organization, file organization, archival processes, and media asset management.

Innovation & Quality Control

  • Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and sports media innovations to evolve video storytelling strategies.
  • Make recommendations for equipment upgrades, software solutions, and workflow improvements that enhance overall production quality and efficiency.
  • Continually innovate to optimize video content for digital, social, broadcast, and in-venue platforms.

Supplemental Job Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Video Content Production team and Detroit Tigers objectives.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Video Production, Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of professional experience in video production, ideally within sports, live entertainment, or news environments.
  • Proven track record of leading pre-production, on-site production, and post-production workflows for high quality, multi-platform content.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve.
  • Expertise in video encoding, codecs, and formatting best practices for various distribution channels.
  • Strong creative vision with a demonstrated ability to craft compelling narratives tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple, concurrent deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced team setting.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by the sports calendar.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and adhere to corporate travel policies.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Previous experience producing video content for a professional sports organization, preferably hockey.
  • Familiarity with NHL workflows, brand standards, and fan engagement strategies.
  • Knowledge of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment’s organizational structure and creative ecosystem.
