Job Summary:
The Communications Coordinator plays a key role in supporting and executing media relations and broadcasting functions for the Detroit Tigers. This position facilitates strong collaboration across some of the team’s most important stakeholders, including various internal departments, broadcast rightsholders, and members of the media covering the Tigers on a daily basis. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a passion for elevating team visibility through compelling storytelling, effective media engagement, and seamless coordination of logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
Media Relations & Communications
- Coordinate day-to-day media operations including distribution of game notes, lineups, press releases, and managing all credentials for broadcasters and members of the press.
- Serve as an on-site media contact during most home games, ensuring proper check-in, credentialing, and professional hospitality for media members.
- Assist in planning and executing promotional campaigns and media strategies surrounding key baseball and business initiatives to drive coverage and fan engagement.
- Support logistics surrounding media interviews and content capture sessions, serving serve as a liaison between communications/broadcasting department and stakeholders.
- Help maintain accurate archives of media coverage, club information, photos, and press materials, including the collection and distribution of daily clips packages to members of the front office.
Rightsholder & Broadcast Partner Relations
- Serve as a point of contact for local and national broadcast rightsholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment on programming, game coverage, and content priorities.
- Schedule and facilitate regular planning meetings between production teams, broadcasters, and internal departments to ensure alignment of messaging and that key narratives are highlighted as needed.
- Maintain updated contact lists, broadcast documentation, and media talent schedules to ensure smooth operations.
Talent & Travel Coordination
- Manage scheduling, travel logistics, and administrative support for broadcast talent, including coordinating flights, hotel accommodations, and per diems.
- Track and reconcile related expenses, support reimbursement processing, and contribute to department budget planning.
Content & Project Support
- Assist in the production of digital content initiatives including podcasts and broadcast clips, providing other departments with compelling content for fans.
- Collaborate across departments to maintain communication flows, project timelines, and production schedules.
- Help set up and manage recording equipment as needed for media and digital content capture.
- Provide administrative and project management support including meeting coordination, note-taking, and documentation upkeep.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, broadcasting, public relations, sport management, or related field.
- 1+ years of experience in media relations, sport communications, or a related role in the entertainment or media industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Comfortable navigating fast-paced environments and managing multiple deadlines and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with broadcast operations, media landscape trends, and sports communications best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with digital content management systems is a plus.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
