Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for assisting the Head Groundskeeper with all maintenance and upkeep of Comerica Park’s baseball field as well as all other landscaped areas.

Key Responsibilities:
• Daily maintenance of a major league baseball field and other landscaped areas of stadium
• Perform and supervise pre- and post-event field preparations
• Direct and assist in the placement and removal of all field tarps
• Maintenance of all batting cages, field screens, and enclosed pitching and hitting areas
• Supervise care and maintenance of the grounds work area and storage facilities
• Safely operate and direct the operation of all grounds equipment and tools, powered or otherwise
• Perform required staffing procedures including hiring, scheduling, payroll functions, and other personnel related duties in union environment
• Train, lead, and supervise groundcrew and tarpcrew
• Evaluate supervised personnel for efficiency and effectiveness to the department and the organization
• Assist in the development and enforcement of safety and work regulations
• Assist in the proper procedures for requesting and maintaining related records of expenditures of all grounds related needs, including supplies, personnel and equipment.
• Assist in the establishment of sources of supplies and equipment
• Interact with the general public, Tigers associates, clients, player personnel, and others in a positive and effective manner.
 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge and experience required to expertly manage the Grounds Department of the Detroit Tigers
• Knowledge of maintenance practices such as, mowing, overseeding, fertilization, irrigation, top dressing, preparation of pitching mounds and infields
• Knowledge of grounds equipment maintenance
• Minimum 1 year experience maintaining a Major League Baseball field required.
• Bachelor’s degree or combination of education & equivalent work experience preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel & Outlook
• Ability to perform all necessary physical requirements for grounds maintenance
• Ability to effectively lead and supervise all groundcrew and tarpcrew personnel
• Excellent communication skills & positive attitude
• Capability of functioning in a sometimes, high-stress environment
• Exhibits managerial presence
