POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, coordination, and execution of all security operations for Prudential Center. This role ensures the safety and protection of guests, employees, performers, athletes, and assets during NHL games, concerts, family shows, and special events.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE BELOW:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive venue-wide security strategy and risk management plan for all event types.
- Lead event security planning for professional sporting events and high-profile/ large scale events, ensuring seamless coordination and exceptional guest safety
- Oversee threat assessment, intelligence coordination, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with NHL, federal, state, and local regulations while continuously elevating organizational security standards.
Operational Security Management Duties:
- Direct all day-to-day security operations, ensuring highly visible, proactive security presence throughout the venue.
- Oversee and managescontract event security vendor.
- Implement and oversee access control, credentialing, screening, and perimeter security processes.
- Manage incident response, investigations, and consistent reporting in alignment with best practices
- Perform as security lead for any event as designated by the VP, Safety and Security
Emergency Management & Public Safety Duties:
- Serve as key leader whitin the incident command or Unified Command role during emergencies.
- Coordinate with law enforcement, fire services, EMS, homeland security and NHL partners.
- Maintain and update the Emergency Operations Plan and Contingency Action Plan
- Help plan, facilitate, and evaluate tabletop exercises and emergency response drills for continuous improvement
Security Technology & Infrastructure Duties:
- Oversee CCTV, access control, screening technology, and command center operations.
- Evaluate and deploy emerging security technologies that strengthen situational awareness and response capabilities.
Personnel Leadership Duties:
- Recruit, train, and mentor security staff committed to excellence and service
- Foster and promote a culture of safety , accountability and professionalism to guarantee excellent customer service.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5 plus + years of arena/stadium event security experience managing in-house or 3rd party event security contractors
- Proven track record of success and ability to operate effectively during major events.
- Strong knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS), crowd management, and risk mitigation strategies.
- NJ SORA certification or ability to obtain (within required timeframes)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work environment: This position generally requires that work be performed from the Prudential Center/New Jersey Devils office and requires availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations in a 24/7 environment.
- Travel Requirements: May travel up to 5% during the year
- Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $90,000 - $105,000/year. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, including: eligibility for a discretionary bonus.
This position will be an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
