The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs.  These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).  We are currently seeking a Recruiting & Eligibility Coordinator who will work within the department’s Compliance unit.

Description of Position:  
This position is responsible for transcript evaluation for admission and NCAA academic eligibility evaluation for incoming student-athletes, the development and maintenance of a general recruiting policy/program, and assisting in the coordination of official visits for all of Athletics’ 30 sports. This position will also be a lead for Football staff (particularly Director Player Personnel position) with review of transcripts and final determinations on who to recruit and offer scholarships to, and on-Campus recruiting efforts (Campus tours, meet with recruits & their parents, assist recruits with admissions & NCAA certification process, etc.).

Responsibilities:
  • Assess academic preparedness of traditional, special-program, and international applicants per NCAA eligibility requirements and UC Berkeley admissions requirements.  Researches educational systems as needed and analyzes academic records for prospective student-athletes (incoming freshman and transfers).
  • Liaison to Student-Athlete Admissions Committee and Campus Admissions Department. Act on behalf of Intercollegiate Athletics to the Campus Admissions Committee.
  • Participate in team meetings with all 30 varsity teams, as well as Assistant & Head Coaches meetings to convey Campus academic and NCAA eligibility requirements and expectations for student-athletes. Provide any updates on Campus and/or NCAA recruiting/admission policies, include recent news surrounding Berkeley that might be relevant for recruiting, etc.
  • Assist coaching staffs from all 30 varsity sports in the coordination of local and national recruiting efforts. Work with coaches, as requested, on how to best utilize the recruiting office to assist them in their recruitment of potential student-athletes.
  • Approve and assist in the coordination of official visits for all 30 programs. Help coaches by setting up meetings with academic advisors, professors/faculty, and admissions representatives.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of Department’s JumpForward account. Use database to track recruit data, including academic eligibility.
  • Plan, manage and implement events to enhance recruitment and yield, including Cal Day and multi-sport Junior Days, diversity initiative events, mentoring programs, electronic communications, and similar activities.

Required Qualifications:   
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/experience.
  • 2 years of experience in Division I Athletics or other relevant field (e.g., admissions and recruitment).
  • Thorough knowledge of program activity and best practices.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions.
  • Effective oral and written communication and listening skills. 
  • Proficient in the use of basic computer applications.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA Division I initial eligibility and recruiting rules and Pac-12 rules and regulations.
  • Previous experience with admissions requirements in a University setting. 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Division I Athletics or other relevant field (e.g., admissions and recruitment).
  • Experience with evaluating transcripts for NCAA initial and transfer eligibility and admissions requirements.
  • Proficiency with a compliance/recruiting software system.
  • Working knowledge of University of California admissions requirements.
