Position Summary
The Payroll Manager will be primarily responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll process and systems for the Atlanta Falcons Football Club, Atlanta United Football Club, Mercedes-Benz Stadium Company, and AMB Sports & Entertainment. Our organization currently processes semi-monthly payrolls for all companies as well as weekly NFL Player payroll for Atlanta Falcons Football Club as outlined in the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position will require someone who holds the utmost respect for confidentiality, understands the dynamics of professional sports teams, and has a customer-service mindset.
The Payroll Manager will lead the AMB Sports & Entertainment payroll team with two direct reports and report directly to the Director of Finance. This position is hands-on related to payroll processing and will be cross trained to provide redundancy within the department.

This is a full-time role located at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta. 
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provides oversight, training and development of payroll staff.
  • Anticipates potential problems and proactively resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Researches and resolves client/system problems.
  • Analyzes and reviews payroll to ensure its accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Ensures the payroll department maintains a high rate of client satisfaction through quality service.
  • Has executed full cycle payroll and is able to manage the process, accuracies, and efficiencies.
  • Audits weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.).
  • Oversees preparation of year-end tax documents for US tax authorities and Germany (e.g. W2, 1095Cs for players, etc.).
  • Performs various journal entries, account reconciliations and provides General Ledger support.
  • Verifies incoming payroll data including salary adjustments, special payments, tax allocations and employee deductions to set schedules.
  • Leads the deferred compensation plan, supports and funds the 401(k) and HSA benefit plans.
  • Partners with the league regarding pension payments and annual reporting.
  • Keeps abreast of the payroll processing system updates and changes in wage and tax law, and
  • Corresponds with federal, state and local tax agencies on behalf of our clients in problem situations.
  • Conducts benefit/payroll new hire orientations and continues to educate associates throughout their employment on the nuances of their benefits package.
  • Analyzes benefits claims data and reacts with cost control initiatives.
  • Audits monthly benefit invoices in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Reads contracts for front office and players to ensure correct compensation and deadlines are met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of management experience in payroll or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the payroll field.
  • NFL or other Professional Sports Team experience required.
  • Workday payroll experience highly preferred.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral).

  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong inter-department and cross-departmental collaboration skills.
  • Process and policy (SOP) documentation including payroll guidelines, timelines, and checklists.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Strong customer-service orientation.
  • High-level attention to detail.
  • Learning agility when it comes to maintaining current technology as well as learning new technology
  • Takes initiatives to research, analyze and resolve problems.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and database systems
